摘要： The present application provides a method for measuring coking propensity of a fossil fuel, comprising mixing an iron powder with a fossil fuel, wherein the iron powder has an average particle size of less than or equal to 100 μm; reacting the iron powder with the fossil fuel at a temperature and a pressure sufficient to allow coking for a period of time; separating a supernatant and a solid product after said coking; and analyzing the solid product for carbon content, wherein the carbon content is proportional to the coking propensity. There is also provided is a method for measuring effectiveness of a coking inhibitor.

摘要： Systems and methods are provided for characterizing kerosene fractions in order to determine whether the fractions will satisfy a desired thermal breakpoint specification. Additionally, hydrotreating conditions can be determined that will result in a hydrotreated kerosene fraction that satisfies the desired thermal breakpoint specification. The hydrotreating conditions can be determined based on a model constructed from data corresponding to a plurality of reference samples. The model can include data for compositional groups within the reference samples. The data for compositional groups can be derived from Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry data or from another suitable characterization technique.

The tendency of the heated fluid to oxidize and (1) form deposits on a surface of a heater tube and (2) form solids therein, are both measured at a given flow rate, temperature and time. The measured results are used to determine whether a fluid sample passes or fails the test. Results of the measurements are recorded. The fluid under test is pumped with a low volume, high pressure, single piston pump with only a small fluctuation (pulsation) in output flow.

摘要： A process is described for determining the stability of asphaltenes in oil fields, which comprises the following steps: a) titrations of stock tank oil are carried out; the values measured are then used, together with physico-chemical analyses of the stock tank oil, to thermodynamically characterize the asphaltenes and the heavy oil fraction; b) using the physico-chemical analyses of live oil, the experimental data relating to its phase behavior are interpolated in order to provide a better representation by means of an equation of state; c) using the equation of state thus calibrated and the characterization of the asphaltenes, the stability of the latter is verified in relation to the temperature and pressure of live oil, using the equation describing the behavior of a sterically stabilized colloid.
