    • PURPOSE:To prevent the operation of a rush adjuster from becoming improper due to the invasion of bubbles, by setting an acute angle between the inside surface of a rush adjuster insertion cylinder and the upper inside surface of an oil passage, which extends continuously to the former inside surface. CONSTITUTION:A hydraulic rush adjuster 11 is fitted in a rush adjuster insertion cylinder 10 so that the adjuster can be moved in and out. The angle alpha between the upper inside surface 26a of an oil passage 26 and the inside surface of the insertion cylinder 10 is made acute. The distance (x) between the top of the oil passage 26 and that of a communication opening 27 is made larger than the height (y) of the opening. As a result, bubble-containing oil flowing in the upper part of the passage 26 does not come into the rush adjuster 11 through the communication opening 27. This constitution prevents the drop in output and the occurrence of noise from being caused by the invasion of bubbles.

    • An oil supply circuit for a cylinder deactivating system is provided to form an air discharge hole at one side of a low-pressure oil path, use the air discharge hole as an oil jet for lubrication of a timing chain, and prevent aeration in the low-pressure oil path. An oil supply circuit includes a first low-pressure oil path(LL1), a branch low-pressure oil path(BLL), and a second low-pressure oil path(LL2). The first low-pressure oil path is provided at an intake and connected to an intake tappet(5a) of a 5-cylinder(Cyl5) and an intake tappet(3a) of a 3-cylinder(Cyl3). The second low-pressure oil path branches to an outlet and is connected to an outlet tappet(5b) of the 5-cylinder. The second low-pressure oil path is connected to an outlet tappet(1b) of the 1-cylinder and the intake tappet of the 1-cylinder through an outlet tappet(3b) of the 3-cylinder. A high-pressure oil path(HL) is connected to each terminals of the first low-pressure oil path, the second low-pressure oil path, and the branch low-pressure oil path while being connected to a first oil control valve(OCV1) and a second oil control valve(OCV2).
