    • A dome constructing method comprising the steps of assembling a triangular frame, which is the fundamental unit for a polyhedral skeleton, by using three joints and three frame members with the three joints used as the apexes and the three frame members used as the sides and with the triangular frame in contact with the ground, assembling new triangular frames around the ground-contacting triangular frame by using similar frame members and joints, thereby assembling the polyhedral skeleton of a multipyramid, such as pentagonal pyramid or hexagonal pyramid, with one joint that is positioned at one apex in the ground-contacting triangular frame being used as the apex and with the ground-contacting triangular frame used as one surface, wherein each time the polyhedral skeleton for the multipyramid is thus assembled, the same is turned to bring a new triangular frame other than the ground-contacting triangular frame into contact with the ground and then the assembling operation is repeated to assemble a polyhedral skeleton, thus constructing a spherical dome.

    • A reticulated dome structure (20) has an inner structural network (24) and an outer structural network (26). Each network has structural members (34, 38) connected at junctions (36, 40) to form various shapes of dome structures including: vault, vault with rounded ends, triangular, stadium, intersecting vault, and spherical. The junctions have two plates (54, 56) with the structural members fastened (68) therebetween to form moment bearing junctions. Tubular braces (32) are connected according to a desired plan between outer network junctions and inner network junctions to establish a desired substantially parallel spacing between the networks and to transfer loads locally between the networks. The network members subdivide outer and inner surfaces into polygonal areas which are of a uniform kind in the outer network. The outer network openings can be closed by closure panels (29, 170) which laterally stabilize the outer network members to which they are connected and structurally enhance that network.

    • The basic shape of a large span dome (10) is defined by a primary network (20) of structural struts (15) which are so arranged between their junctions (16) that they fully triangulate the surface (13) of the dome. The struts throughout the network have substantially uniform cross-sectional dimensions which are defined with reference to strut loads encountered at and near the perimeter (37) of the dome. The central portion of the network is strengthenedto withstand snap-through of the dome by a truss system (30) comprised of a secondary network (35) of truss members (33) which lie in a secondary surface (31) which is inside the dome and is spaced from the dome's triangulated surface. The primary (20) and secondary (35) networks are tied together by tie members (36) which extend between connections (34) of the truss members and the strut junctions (16) and which lie in the planes of webs (25) of respective struts. The assembly of the tie members to the strut junctions can be achieved by use of the same fasteners (26) which connect the struts to their junctions.

Da es besonders bei unregelmäßig gekrümmten Tragwerken zumindest an einem Ende eines Stabes zu einer erheblichen Verdrehung des Profils des Stabes gegenüber der Knotenebene aber auch den anderen ankommenden Stäben kommt, wird ein ordnungsgemäßer Anschluss nur dadurch gewährleistet, dass die Seitenwände der beiden Arme, zwischen die das Ende des Stabes eingeschoben wird, entsprechend dieser Verdrehung geneigt sind.
      Das Dichtungselement zum Abdichten des Knotens und der daran befestigten Stäbe weist einen zentralen Bereich auf, der zumindest den Bereich des Schnittpunktes der Stäbe abdecken kann, sowie zumindest einen mit diesem zentralen Bereich durch zumindest eine Materialfalte, wie einen Faltenbalg, verbundenen Ausleger.
