    • A vibration mitigation assembly for mitigating vibration of a bridge as a vehicle travels across the bridge is provided. The vibration mitigation assembly includes a plurality of adjustable actuator assemblies having a first fluid chamber and a second fluid chamber interconnected by a valve. The actuator assemblies being connected to the vehicle and motion sensors being attached to the vehicle to measure vibration of the vehicle. In response to the motion data, a controller outputs a control signal to the valve to vary the flow rate of the fluid between the first and second chambers such that the amount of vibration energy dissipated by the vibration mitigation assembly is selectively varied whereby both a stiffness of the adjustable actuator assemblies and the amount of damping are continuously adjusted to prevent resonant coupling between the vehicle and the bridge over which the vehicle is traveling.

    • An apparatus is provided for processing data derived from the weight of a load carried by a haulage vehicle for generating information concerning haulage cycles executed by the vehicle. The apparatus includes a sensor processing unit for receiving data from pressure transducers and, in response thereto, detects a change in the weight of the load and formulates data indicative of hauling conditions of the vehicle. Pressure data and indications of changes in the data are used by the sensor processing unit to establish a historical data base from which various hauling parameters may be monitored either by the sensor processing unit itself or by a remotely located central station linked to the on-board processing unit. Preferably, additional sensors are added to the vehicle to provide additional data that, when taken with the weight data, provides a historical data base which more completely reflects vehicle operating conditions. The accumulated data of the historical data base are used to formulate management decisions directed to the future operation of the vehicle and with this operation then intended to achieve a predetermined management goal.

    • A system is disclosed for identifying the location of a vehicle, assemblying data related to vehicle performance and correlating the assembled data with vehicle location. From the correlation of data and location, a data base is generated that provides information for monitoring performance of the vehicle, reporting irregularities in the performance and generating control signals for commanding vehicle movement. The system comprises a plurality of signposts located at intended destinations of a vehicle, wherein each signpost is characterized by indicia that are distinctive to the associated destination. On board each vehicle is a device for detecting a signpost when the vehicle is within a predetermined proximity of it. The device generates data indicative of the location of the vehicle in response to detection of a signpost. Also on board each vehicle are sensors for collecting and recording data indicative of vehicle performance. The location and performance data are correlated to provide a data base for use by a computer in monitoring the vehicle performance, reporting irregularities in the performance and locating the vehicle and controlling the movement of the vehicle.

    • A weight distribution system for dynamically controlling and adjusting the weight load on each axle of a vehicle 10 uses a manifold 26 that is fluid flow disposed between a source of pressured air 24 of the vehicle and the air bags 18 of the vehicle 12. The manifold 26 allows an individual air bag 18 to be inflated or deflated to a desired pressurization depending on either preprogrammed or user input parameters. By individually controlling the air bags 18, the system allows the setting of the maximum amount of weight to be borne by a given axle 14 so that tires 16 can be removed from that axle 14 without weight overloading the remaining tires 16. The system also automatically self-levels the chassis of the vehicle 12 and maintains proper ride height of the vehicle 12 using input from a height sensor 20 located on one of the axles 14. The system wirelessly communicates, terrestrially or via satellite 48, its parameters to roadway officials to verify that the vehicle 12 is in compliance with weight loading requirements and to the home office or other location via a satellite link.
