摘要： Methods, systems, and media for use in separating mixtures. A slurry including a separation liquid and one or more particulate media materials is provided. A classification separation is performed on the slurry to produce a classified media having a controlled particle size distribution of the particulate media materials. The classified media is combined with a mixture to be separated to generate a separation mixture. A density separation is performed on the separation mixture. The particle size distribution can be controlled based in part on characteristics of components of a separation system to be used in subsequent density separations.

摘要： A process for separating particles of electrically non-conductive material, especially plastics material and/or paper, from waste, in which before separation the waste may be prepared by comminution, dehydration and/or loosening up, it is to be further developed so that the particles of non-conductive material can be removed simply and economically. This is achieved by subjecting the waste, as a heterogeneous stream of material of limited particle size, at a first station to a treatment which electrostatically charges the particles of non-conductive material and at a subsequent second station extracting the electrostatically charged particles, in the fluidized or suspended state of the stream of material, from the stream of material by means of at least one receiver of opposite electrostatic charge.

摘要： A system for pulverizing coal to be burned in a furnace (20), where nearly all of the coarse ash particles are removed from the coal prior to its introduction to the furnace. The system includes a pulverizing mill (10) having a first classifier (12) in its outlet for separating some of the large, heavy particles and returning them to the pulverizer. A second classifier (16) is connected to the first classifier, and includes a curved duct (16) wherein the solid particles being carried in an airstream are thrown outwardly against an outer wall. A skimmer blade (78) extending through the outer wall skims off a percentage of the large, heavy particles, the percentage depending on how much coarse ash the coal stream contains. The rest of the coal particles are conveyed to a furnace and burned therein. The separated large, heavy particles are passed through an ionizer (30) and then through an electrostatic separator (34), where the inorganic particles are separated from the coal particles. The coal particles can then be conveyed to the furnace or sent back to the pulverizer for further grinding.

The sand tobacco mixture is passed through dryer (14), to reduce the moisture content, agitated by conveyor (16), passed through sieve (18), to obtain the correct particle size and to mechanically agitate the mixture, and is then passed through electrostatic separators (24) and (25) to separate the sand from the tobacco. Portions of the electrostatically separated sand tobacco mixture may be passed through another electrostatic separator (26) to achieve a further separation of sand and tobacco.
