摘要： This invention relates to surgical drapes and in particular provides a drape which comprises a thin, flexible, adhesive-coated plastics film and a protective, releasable layer applied to the adhesive coating, the drape having an aperture through at least the adhesive-coated film to permit, in use, access to a wound area, at least one first edge of the drape having a non-adhesive coated handling bar for separating the adhesive-coated film from the protective layer, and wherein the protective layer comprises a separate strip extending parallel to the first edge of the drape, and which protects the adhesive coating in the region of the aperture and carries at least one flap overlapping the adjacent portion of the protective layer, said flap constituting a handle for facilitating removal of said strip prior to use.

摘要： The present invention provides a fluid collection pouch which may be easily attached to a surgical drape or directly to a patient's skin. The fluid collection pouch comprises a front panel and a rear panel joined along common side edges (thus defining a fluid receiving chamber). The pouch has an open top end to which is adhesively attached a portion of a tape attachment strip. A second portion of the tape attachment strip overhangs the open top end of the pouch and is covered with a liner. In use, the liner is removed (thus exposing an additional portion of the adhesive surface of the tape attachment strip) and the exposed adhesive is placed against the surface to which the pouch is being attached. This design provides a leak free seal between the surface and the pouch, and fluid is able easily to flow over the sealed region into the pouch without being inhibited or directed away. The present invention also provides a fenestrated surgical drape having a pre-attached fluid collection pouch and methods of making such fluid collection pouches and drapes.

摘要： A malleable vaginal speculum (20) is manually shaped to dilate the inner contour of a vagina sufficiently to allow manipulation of endoscopic surgical instruments within the vagina. The malleable vaginal speculum (20) may optionally be coupled with a funnel, apron and splash shield to function as a fluid collector for use during endoscopic surgery. A portion of the splash shield is placed under the patient while the remainder extends to a perforated portion of the funnel wall. Fluid draining into the funnel through its mouth and through the perforated wall is collected in a container where its volume is measured. By measuring the volume of irrigation fluid dispensed during the surgery and subtracting the measured fluid volume collected, an estimate of the amount of irrigation fluid absorbed by the patient during the surgery is obtained.

摘要： A fluid evacuation system (8) which is particularly well-suited for removing liquids from the site of a surgical procedure. In one configuration the system (8) is in the form of a pad (9)which can be placed directly on a patient or used in conjunction with a surgical drape. The pad is connected to a vacuum source and as fluids flow across the top surface (10) of the pad, they are drawn down into a fluid receiving chamber (14) and then removed via a suction line (20). As a result, fluids present during a surgical procedure are taken completely away from the operating site. In another configuration, the system is in the form of a suction rail (30) which operates in the same fashion but can be molded or formed into a particular shape and then attached to a surgical drape (32) in the expected path of fluid run-off.

摘要： An disposable surgical drape is provided for use while performing surgical procedures on an eye of a patient, or other surgical procedures. There is an operative, surgical aperture formed through a base sheet for being located proximal to a first eye, or other surgical site, of the patient. An attachment zone is formed on the base sheet, proximal to the surgical aperture, and at least partially surrounds the surgical aperture. In one form, a guide extends across the surgical aperture on the upper surface of the base sheet. In another form, the base sheet has a non¬ surgical aperture spaced from the surgical aperture for being located proximal to a second eye of the patient. The disposable surgical drape can be provided in a folded form to facilitate placement on a patient and subsequent unfolding and spreading of the drape. In this embodiment, the drape includes a minimally-adhesive film that defines the surgical aperture.
