The user equipment receives information on group deletion of the user equipment from a base station. The user equipment transmits an acknowledgement (ACK) signal about the received information on the group deletion to the base station. In this case, the information on the group deletion is configured as a separate extended header type or a type that an extended header is piggybacked on a specific downlink packet to be transmitted to the user equipment. Preferably, the user equipment decodes the received information on the group deletion of the user equipment. The user equipment successfully decodes the information on the group deletion and is then able to transmit the acknowledgement (ACK) signal about the received information on the group deletion to the base station.

According to the present invention, a femto base station enables non-synchronized ranging channel (NS-RCH) information to be carried on S-SFH SP1. A mobile station receives S-SFH and then determines whether a base station is a femto base station. If the base station is the femto base station, the mobile station is able to perform a periodic ranging using the NS-RCH information within the S-SFH as well as an initial/handover ranging.

A method of a mobile station for performing ranging in a broadband wireless access system, the method includes the steps of transmitting a first ranging preamble code for requesting ranging to a base station through a first ranging opportunity of a first frame, and, when a first message is received from the base station before a timer indicating a limited time point is expired, wherein the first message including a response to the first ranging preamble code is transmitted during the limited time point, determining whether or not the ranging request is successfully made by using the first message.
