    • A special test pattern and image quality analysis system and process for evaluating the test pattern are provided to accurately measure color-color registration in an image output device that prints in CMYK color. The process is robust even when using relatively low-resolution CCD-based scanners and also is unique in that the process automatically factors out errors originating from skew between the detector and the subject of measurement. Further, registration of each of C, M, and Y relative to K are independently determined. The test pattern includes an upper part and a lower part, with both the upper and lower parts having a black K component and the upper part also including color components for C, M and Y. The system and method have potential for being built in to color printers or copiers to allow measurement of color misregistration within the paper path and automatically correct for color registration errors.

    • A release agent management (RAM) system incorporated in an electrophotograpic printing machine having a heat and pressure fuser assembly to aid in the removal of fused copies from the fuser roll. The fuser assembly includes a heated fuser roll, a pressure roll, a sump containing a quantity of release agent, a pair of metering rolls and a donor roll. Each of the metering rolls is immersed in a quantity of release agent and is able to selectively be brought into contact with the donor roll. The donor roll acts as the transport to transfer release agent from either or both of the metering rolls to the heated fuser roll. The dual roll metering system provides a RAM system which can uniformly provide two or more oiling rates varying with the process speed of the printing machine. It also provides a RAM system which can switch oiling rates without creating oil slugs which ultimately reach the fuser thereby degrading copy quality.

    • What is disclosed is a method for vehicle occupancy detection using a single band infrared imaging system. First, an infrared image of a vehicle intended to be processed for human occupancy detection is captured using a single band infrared camera set to a predefined wavelength band. A candidate sub-image is identified within the captured image. A cumulative histogram is formed using the reflectance values of each pixel in the candidate region. A threshold reflectance value is then determined from the cumulative histogram using a pre-defined cumulative occurrence fraction value which corresponds to a value equivalent to an average sized human face. Embodiments for setting the threshold reflectance value are disclosed. Thereafter, human occupants can be distinguished in the image from the vehicle's interior by comparing pixel reflectances in the sub-image against the threshold reflectance value.
