    • Techniques for estimating the cost of processing a database statement that includes one or more path expressions are provided. One aspect of cost is I/O cost, or the cost of reading data from persistent storage into memory according to a particular streaming operator. Binary-encoded XML data is stored in association with a synopsis that summarizes the binary-encoded XML data. The synopsis includes skip length information for one or more elements and indicates, for each such element, how large (e.g., in bytes) the element is in storage. The skip length information of a particular element thus indicates how much data may be skipped during I/O if the particular element does not match the path expression that is input to the streaming operator. The skip length information of one or more elements is used to estimate the cost of processing the database statement.

    • One method of estimating timing and frequency information of a payload transmitted through two or more frequency separated channels combines training fields from preambles from the two or more frequency separated channels to construct combined values that may be used to estimate the frequency and timing information. In one embodiment, the combined values may be determined by combining self-correlated training fields from the frequency separated channels. Another method of estimating the timing and frequency information selects the training fields from the preamble of one of the frequency separated channels based upon a signal quality metric. In another embodiment, the selection of the training fields based upon a signal quality metric may be biased to favor a particular channel.

    • An automatic gain control (AGC) technique can quickly sense signal size over a large dynamic range by using a peak detector block in the analog portion of the receiver. The peak detector block can compare a received signal to predetermined thresholds (chosen to divide a potential signal range into smaller ranges). Therefore, the peak detector block can assist the automatic gain control (AGC) in quickly sizing the received signal. The AGC technique can also reduce digital filter settling time by simulating a gain change and providing this simulated value to the digital filters of the receiver. DC or spur components can be estimated prior to and after performing an analog gain change and then removed from digital signal samples. The digital signal samples sampled prior to performing the analog gain change can then be rescaled and provided to the digital filter, thereby avoiding discontinuity in a digital signal.

    • An electric connector having a first coupling member (1) and a second coupling member (2) fitted with the first member; the second coupling member (2) comprises an inserting pin (18); the inserting pin has a front end. On the outer peripheral surface of the inserting pin, a plurality of guide grooves are formed and each includes a straight section and a curved section. A metallic contact (24) is arranged at the end of each of the curved sections far away from the straight section; the first coupling member (1) includes an inserting member (4) having a hold (22), a plurality protrusions (5) formed in the hold (22) and extending radially, and metallic contacts (21). Each of the metallic contacts (21) is attached on one section of the peripheral surface of each of said protrusion (5) and faces oppositely to the opening of the hold (22). An insuring means is used to establish the effective electric contact among the metallic contacts (A, B); the protrusions (5) in the first coupling member (1) are used for moving along guide grooves (19) of the second coupling member (2) so as to act as guidance during the connection of the first coupling member (1) with the second coupling member (2), and have the same number as the guide grooves. The metallic contacts (24) of the inserting member (4) are used for electric connection with the metallic contacts (21) of the grooves (19) after the first coupling member (1) and the second coupling member (2) are inserted into and connected with each other.
