    • An information recording/reproducing apparatus includes a detector circuit for detecting a state of reflection light from the recording medium, a control circuit for calculating a radiation power used for writing the information in the recording medium, in accordance with the reflection light state, a pulse generator circuit for generating record pulse information in accordance with the radiation power, and an optical driver circuit for converting the record pulse information into optical information in accordance with the radiation power and driving the optical head to record the light information into the recording medium. Accordingly, the apparatus records information by applying light from an optical head to a record area of a recording medium and changing a state of the record area and reads the information recorded in the record area.

To improve the conformity of a recording medium with a device that records, retrieves and erases information, a recording pulse train is generated by a test write data generating circuit 18 and a recording pulse forming circuit 15 and a recording mark is recorded on a recording medium 5 by a laser driver 14. Excessive power recording is reduced, an optimum recording power is determined and regular information recording and retrieving is carried out by detecting a test write data from a test write data detecting circuit 12 to which the retrieved signal from the recording medium 5 is input. Based upon analysis of the retrieved signal by a controller 19, and the range of next power scan is changed so as to avoid excessive power recording while making it possible to determine the optimum recording power.

    • A magneto-optical disk recording control method using the mark length recording method wherein the marks and gap regions between marks are recorded on the surface of the disk by maintaining a constant temperature distribution during the recording. The laser is driven to a non-recording level in gap regions between marks that exceed a base recording level used for reproduction of the marks. When a mark is recorded, the laser power is increased to a recording power level and after the mark has been recorded, the laser power level is reduced to the base power level, followed by being raised to the gap recording level. Control of the laser is performed by superposing a plurality of pulse trains that are synchronized with respect to a clock having a cycle T. The pulse trains are derived from the code train to be recorded and have pulses with a duration that is an integral multiple of (1/2)T. If the pulse width of the recording code train exceeds 2T, then the laser is controlled to reach a first power level in accordance with pulses of a first pulse train, be reduced to the gap recording level and then raised to a second power level in accordance with a second recording pulse train to maintain the temperature distribution constant during the recording of the mark. For the recording of longer marks, the laser is controlled to vary between the second power level and the gap recording level.
