    • A SAN management system including the ability to generate perspectives of a SAN topology is provided. The SAN management system includes a SAN manager program to monitor a SAN. The SAN management system further includes a SAN management database linked with the SAN manager program, wherein the SAN management database maintains information identifying devices included within the SAN and connections between the devices. In addition, the SAN management system includes a plurality of sensor agents positioned within the devices included within the SAN, wherein the sensor agents gather information pertaining to the connections between the devices and provide the gathered information to the SAN manager program for inclusion within the SAN management database. Moreover, the SAN management system includes a topology viewer linked to the SAN manager to generate a user requested topology perspective according to data included within the SAN management database and data associated with a previously requested topology perspective.

    • A computer-implemented method for managing data snapshots among source and target storage volumes in a dual-controller environment. A configuration space that maps the source and target storage volumes to first and second logical drives respectively is established. The configuration space is then divided into first and second portions, wherein a first storage controller controls the first portion and a second storage controller controls the second portion. A snapshot relationship is established between the source and target storage volumes such that portions of data on the source storage volume are logically mirrored on the target storage volume. The identical snapshot relationship is stored in both the first and second storage controllers. In response to a request to perform an operation that results in a modification of the snapshot relationship, the operation is performed. and then a modified snapshot relationship is transferred to the first and second controllers. The modified snapshot relationship reflects the operation, thereby synchronizing the snapshot relationship data in the first and second controllers.

    • Embodiments of the present invention provide an approach for migrating virtual machines across network (e.g., WAN) separated data centers (e.g., storage clouds). Specifically, under embodiments of the present invention, a first storage system associated with a first data center is synchronized with a second storage system associated with a second data center via a storage system link. Then, a minimal state of a virtual machine is migrated from a first computer in the first data center to a second computer in the second data center via a WAN link. Using the minimal state, the virtual machine is stored in the second computer. Thereafter, the storage system link is terminated. In addition, as updated pages are received in memory of the first computer, they are migrated to the second computer via the WAN link. Once this migration is complete, the WAN link can be terminated. Therefore, embodiments of the present invention provide at least two forms of synchronization: computational synchronization and storage synchronization.

The trust search results are rank ordered based on various categories of search criteria, including, for example, explicit and implicit relationships. Based on the query-class, a different number of trust search results may be displayed. Further, a position for which the trust search results may be displayed may be based on the query-class. Moreover, the non-trust search results displayed distinct or separate from the trust search results to readily distinguish a type of source of the search results.

    • A mechanism to permit consolidation of storage subsystem volumes into larger, more easily managed volumes and an operating system device driver which includes a trap mechanism for intercepting calls from a host into logical unit devices that were previously consolidated into a single physical volume. A map converts such calls to a logical unit device into a corresponding offset in the single physical volume. A driver accesses the single physical volume with corresponding offsets to transfer data associated with a particular logical unit device. So, logical unit devices can be consolidated and reconsolidated to single physical volumes and other physical volumes without requiring changes to the operating system or its application software and without requiring application or host downtime.
