摘要： A liner outer surface is coated by a sprayed layer or a heterogeneous metal layer including a base metal phase and dispersed metal phases. During casting, liquid metal enters the sprayed layer from the dispersed metal phases and solidifies in a virtual vegetation root state. The surface of the cylinder block is thus rigidly fixed to the surface of the cylinder liner. In this case, a strong bonding force is produced between the cylinder block and the cylinder liner and high thermal conductivity is obtained compared to the prior art in which the liquid metal merely contacts a surface layer.

The system enables the maintenance and reorganization of the database storage units without interrupting the on-going operations involving the access to the database storage units. The non-stop ongoing database access is available by allocating a pair of a main storage unit and an intermediate storage unit that maintains the substantially identical data. During certain predetermined operations, the main storage unit is being dedicating to the on-going transactions while the intermediate database storage unit is manipulated to contain data that corresponds to a specified time. For example, the content of the intermediate storage is subsequently copied or used to update another database. When the above duplication or incorporation is completed, the intermediate storage unit is updated for the transactions that have taken place during the above operations to be synchronized with the main storage unit.

The hard film has a mixture of crystal structure of CrN and crystal structure of Mo.sub.2 N containing oxygen in a solid solution state, and comprises chromium at 40 to 78 percent by weight, molybdenum at 3 to 35 percent by weight, oxygen at 3 to 20 percent by weight and the remainder of nitrogen. The crystal particle size is less than 1 .mu.m. The Vickers hardness is within a range from 1600 to 2500. The film thickness is preferably 1 to 60 .mu.m. Carbon in a solid solution state at 0.5 to 8 percent by weight may be substituted for the oxygen. Alternatively, both oxygen and carbon may be contained in a solid solution state with oxygen at 3 to 20 percent by weight, carbon at 0.5 to 8 percent by weight with the total content of carbon and oxygen within 25 percent by weight.
