    • A fixed scroll compressor body includes a scroll compressor body casting. The casting has a central body portion having a plate-like base with a spiral scroll rib projecting from the base at a right angle thereto. The spiral scroll rib includes a volume between the spiraled ribs for the compressing of refrigerant. The spiral scroll rib spirals from a central region of the plate-like base to an outer wall of the central body portion. The casting further includes a first inward-protruding portion that protrudes from the outer wall into the volume. A distance that the first inward-protruding portion protrudes into the volume is greater than a thickness of the first inward-protruding portion such that removal of the first inward-protruding portion results in a first intake opening in the outer wall. The first intake opening provides a path for a flow of refrigerant into the volume.

    • A scroll compressor includes a housing comprising a cylindrical shell arranged about a vertically-extending axis, and scroll compressor bodies, including a fixed scroll compressor body and a movable scroll compressor body. The scroll compressor bodies are disposed in the housing and have respective bases and respective scroll ribs that project from the respective bases and which mutually engage for compressing fluid. An electrical motor has a stator and rotor. There is a drive shaft and rotor that acts upon the drive shaft that acts upon the scroll compressor bodies to facilitate relative movement between the scroll compressor bodies. A separator plate is disposed in the housing to separate a high-pressure region from a lower pressure region. The separator plate has a central opening. A perimeter of the central opening is defined by a curved inner wall. The curved inner wall is joined to an outer wall via an annular plate.

    • A scroll compressor having a first compressor body with a first base, a first rib that projects from the first base, and a discharge port. A second compressor body has a second base and a second rib projecting from the second base. The first and second ribs are mutually received in each other to define at least one compression chamber between an intake and discharge port. The relative movement between the first and second compressor bodies is adapted to compress fluid from the intake to the discharge port. The scroll compressor further includes a tip seal projecting axially from the second rib. The tip seal is adapted to engage the first base to seal the compression chamber. The discharge port includes an inward-facing radius, which enables the length of the tip seal in the vicinity of the discharge port to be greater than it would be without the inward-facing radius.
