The potentiometer comprises a continuous resistive track (1) which defines a closed circuit, combining: first (T1) and second (T2) terminals which are connected to the continuous resistive track (1) and to two respective voltage values (V1, V2), thereby dividing the resistive track (1) into first (Z1) and second (Z2) zones; a third terminal (T3); and a moveable contact (C) which is connected to an output terminal (Ts). The inventive device also comprises evaluation means for acquiring the voltage at the output terminal (Ts) and position-finding means for determining which zone (Z1, Z2) contains the moveable contact (C) at any time.
