    • A water detention system comprises a sub-base of crushed rock or stone overlying an impermeable layer which may be naturally-occurring, as in an impermeable sub-grade, or may be formed by an impermeable membrane laid over the sub-grade prior to the sub-base layer. Over the sub-base layer is an incompletely impermeable layer the impermeability of which is compromised by openings in the form of slits or by spacing between adjacent strips forming the layer. These openings allow water to percolate downwardly through the layer into the sub-base, but substantially inhibit the escape of moisture by evaporation thereby serving to retain the collected water. Above the incompletely impermeable layer may be a laying course of finer particulate material such as pea gravel over which may be laid a wear surface of slabs or blocks to form an area for traffic, such as a roadway or parking area.

    • A user interface for an electronic trading exchange is provided which allows a remote trader to view in real time bid orders, offer orders, and trades for an item, and optionally one or more sources of contextual data. Individual traders place orders on remote client terminals, and this information is routed to a transaction server. The transaction server receives order information from the remote terminals, matches a bid for an item to an offer for an item responsive to the bid corresponding with the offer, and communicates outstanding bid and offer information, and additional information (such as trades and contextual data) back to the client terminals. Each client terminal displays all of the outstanding bids and offers for an item, allowing the trader to view trends in orders for an item. A priority view is provided in which orders are displayed as tokens at locations corresponding to the values of the orders. The size of the tokens reflects the quantity of the orders. An alternate view positions order icons at a location which reflects the value and quantity of the order. Additionally, contextual data for the item is also displayed to allow the trader to consider as much information as possible while making transaction decisions. A pit panel view is also provided in which traders connected to the pit are represented by icons, and are displayed corresponding to an activity level of the trader.

    • A system for restoring images with undefined pixel values at known locations is described. The threshold value and a neighborhood configuration are defined and are used to restore the image. The neighborhood configuration defines a geometric region, typically a fixed number of pixels, surrounding the target pixel. The threshold value specifies a number of pixels in the neighborhood configuration for which pixel values are known. In our system, for each pixel in one of the unknown regions an analysis is performed over the entire area defined by the neighborhood configuration. If the threshold number of pixels within that region is known, then the value of the unknown pixel is calculated. If the threshold value is not achieved, then analysis proceeds to the next pixel location. By continuing the process and reducing the threshold value when necessary or desirable, the complete image can be restored.

    • A collapsible baby chair apparatus for attachment to an elevated member having a top and bottom surface, such as a tabletop or projecting countertop. The apparatus includes a chair member having a seat portion and a back portion, and a pair of frame members which are operably, pivotally attached to each other in a scissors-like orientation. The seat and back portions may be secured in an opened, seating, position and then releasably foldable to a closed position of reduced profile upon release of a biased locking mechanism. The two frame members each include at least two free ends which are pivotally spread apart and/or closed toward each other by manipulation of the frame members in a scissors-like manner--so as to facilitate positioning of the respective free ends adjacent the top and bottom surfaces of the elevated member. Frame members and securement members enable the chair to be clamped into secured attachment to the elevated member and/or to maintain the chair in its collapsed orientation prior to or after use of the apparatus. When the frame members are completely collapsed and the chair is in its closed position, the apparatus assumes a substantially thin orientation for portability.

    • A system is described for automatically invoking computational resources without intervention or request from a user of the system. The computational resources may operate by searching across a network, or may themselves be located across a network. In the system a query-free information retrieval system is described in which the exact technical documentation contained in existing user or other technical manuals is provided to a user investigating apparatus having a fault. The user enters symptoms based upon the user's analysis of the apparatus, and in response the system provides information concerning likely faults with the apparatus. As the symptoms are entered, to relative value of individual faults is determined and related to the symptoms they cause. The user can then select technical information relating to probable faults in the system.
