    • PURPOSE:To reduce computed variable by shifting the picture elements of the upper and lower lines to obtain the differential absolute value or an error standard like a double error, etc., and calculating an interpolation signal from the decided shift value. CONSTITUTION:The upper line data 1 and the lower line data 2 are inputted to a shift error calculation circuit 3. The shift error data 4 - 8 obtained by the circuit 3 are inputted to an error comparison error calculation circuit 9. The shift value 10 obtained by the circuit 9 per line is inputted to an interpolation signal calculation circuit 11 together with both data 1 and 2. Then an interpolation signal is calculated. Under such conditions, the picture element values of the upper and lower lines are shifted in some different ways for calculation of the differential absolute value or an error standard like a double error, etc. Then the shift value which produces the minimum error is decided as the local horizontal shift value 10. As a result, the computed variable is reduced.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent the increase of a parallax forecast error due to the distortion of a left and a right pictures by performing the retrieval of the block of the highest degree of approximation for a block in which the means value of the block is subtracted from each picture element when the block of the highest degree of approximation is retrieved in parallax compensation at the time to compress the information quantity of a stereoscopic picture. CONSTITUTION:The block for which motion compensation is intended to perform is selected from a left camera present frame memory 11, and is sent to a mean value separation circuit 14. In this circuit 14, the mean value Vac of the luminance of each picture element of the block is calculated, and further, the block V'c from whose each picture element the mean value of each block is subtracted is sent to a motion compensation circuit 15. In the motion compensation circuit 15, the block V'f to be retrieved and the block V'c are compared. Henceforth, the block V'f to be retrieved is calculated successively, and is compared with V'c, and the block V'fmim whose evaluated value EV is minimum is selected by an evaluated value comparison circuit 16. Accordingly, since the block of the higher degree of approximation is selected, a correct forecast picture can be generated.
