    • An oil passage structure in an engine includes a first oil passage and a second oil passage. The second oil passage has a hydraulic pressure which is different from that in the first oil passage. The first and second oil passages are provided in engine body in an arrangement where they intersect each other when viewed in projection onto a plane parallel to an axis of the first oil passage. In order to enable the space for disposition of both the oil passages to be reduced to a necessary minimum to provide a reduction in size of the engine body, a cylindrical partition member having annular seal members mounted on its outer surface at opposite ends is fitted into the first oil passage. Thus, an annular intermediate chamber is defined between the outer surface of the partition member and an inner surface of the first oil passage and is sealed at its opposite ends by the seal members. The second oil passage is provided in the engine body in an arrangement where upstream and downstream passage portion thereof communicate with each other through the intermediate chamber.

    • The primer composition of the invention is particularly useful as an undercoating composition for a protective overcoating formed with a silicone-based coating composition containing a colloidal silica powder in respect of the excellent adhesion, heat resistance, resistance against hot water and weatherability of the overcoating layer. The primer composition essentially comprises two components including (a) 100 parts by weight of a copolymer of a monomer mixture composed of (a-1) from 2 to 50% by weight of an ethylenically unsaturated monomeric compound having, in a molecule, an alkoxysilyl group and (a-2) from 98 to 50% by weight of an ethylenically unsaturated monomeric compound free from alkoxysilyl groups and copolymerizable with the monomeric compound (a-1); and (b) from 5 to 300 parts by weight of an amidated product obtained by the reaction of a halide, anhydride or isopropenyl ester of a carboxylic acid and a product obtained by the reaction of an amino group-containing alkoxysilane compound, an epoxy group-containing alkoxysilane compound and a silylating agent.

    • An internal combustion engine with variable valve opening characteristics includes an outer camshaft, an inner camshaft, an urging device, a cam phase changing device, and a locking device. The outer camshaft includes a first cam. The inner camshaft includes a second cam. The cam phase changing device includes a first rotating member, a second rotating member, an advance-angle-side oil hydraulic chamber, and a retard-angle-side oil hydraulic chamber. A cam phase of the one of the outer camshaft and the inner camshaft is changed by switching between oil hydraulic circuits that communicate with the advance-angle-side oil hydraulic chamber and the retard-angle-side oil hydraulic chamber. The locking device is provided to connect another of the outer camshaft and the inner camshaft to the first rotating member with a predetermined cam phase.
