    • A method for producing recombinant adeno-associated virus in the absence of contaminating helper virus or wild-type virus involves culturing a mammalian host cell containing an rAd/AAV hybrid virus, an AAV rep sequence and an AAV cap sequence under the control of regulatory sequences directing expression thereof. The rAd/AAV hybrid virus contains a rAAV construct to be packaged into an AAV virion in a backbone containing the adenoviral sequences necessary to express E1a and E1b gene products and to permit replication of the hybrid virus. The method of the invention permits replication of the hybrid virus and production of rAAV virion in this host cell in the absence of a helper virus and obviates a subsequent purification step to purify rAAV from contaminating virus.

The properties of the passive components are such that the output light beam from the reflective binary diffractive optical element facets of the rotating cylindrical drum is collimated and normal to the rotating cylindrical drum. The cylindrical drum, cylindrical mirror, and lens are arranged such that the rotating cylindrical drum and the cylindrical mirror are opposed to each other and separated by a distance greater than the sum of the radius of curvature of the cylindrical mirror plus the focal length of the lens, and the lens is interposed between the rotating cylindrical drum and the cylindrical mirror so that the center of the radius of curvature of the cylindrical mirror and the focal point of the lens means are coincident.

    • A device for supporting a building structure or the like includes an elongate shaft which is of square cross section and has a short length of screw flight at a lower end and the male screw threaded portion at an upper end extending coaxially with the shaft. A stabilizer in the form of a sleeve arranged to closely surround the square shaft together with three wings to be hammered downwardly into the ground surrounding the shaft after the shaft is screwed into the ground.
