    • Embodiments may implement a hierarchical data structure for traffic indication mapping. Many embodiments facilitate establishing a number of pages and a number of blocks per page in a bitmap structure. For instance, several embodiments may determine a number of pages (Np) and a number of blocks per page (Nb) in the bitmap structure and communicate these to a station to facilitate communication of TIM elements to the station by an access point. In several embodiments, an access point may determine the number of pages and number of blocks per page and may transmit these numbers to stations as the stations associate with the access point such as in association response frames. In further embodiments, the access point may dynamically change the number of pages and/or the number of blocks per page by transmitting a TIM element to the stations in a beacon frame.

    • A device for communicating in a wireless network, such as, for example, a non-AP STA, is adapted to send a trigger frame to an AP for group-addressed frames. In addition, an AP may be adapted to be triggered for group-addressed frames to deliver the group-addressed frame to a non-AP STA. The group-addressed frames could include data frames or management frames or both. Such a device or non-AP STA can advantageously stay in a power save mode until it is ready to wake up to send a trigger frame to the AP, and does not need to wake up at regular intervals, such as at every DTIM time interval, to listen for beacons from the AP and to receive any group-addressed frames destined for it and buffered at the AP. In this way, the battery life of the device may be extended.

    • When a wireless communications device intends to communicate with another device over a wide channel consisting of multiple narrow channels, but detects interference on one or more of those narrow channels, it may restrict subsequent communications with that other device to those narrow channels that don't suffer from the interference. In one embodiment the device may simply refuse to monitor the interfering channel(s) for signals for a particular period of time. In another embodiment the device may use a CTS to signal the other device not to use the interfering narrow channel(s). That may result in using a wide channel with a reduced bandwidth for communications.
