摘要： Alignment between an optical fiber and a laser diode is carried out by the steps of fixing a position sensitive detector and an optical fiber on a common supporting device, arranging a position sensitive detector opposite the laser diode, measuring the converging point of the light beams from the laser, calculating the difference between the converging point and the optical fiber, displacing the optical fiber relative to the laser diode by the calculated difference for harmonizing the converging point with the center of the optical fiber within a tolerance, moving minutely the optical fiber with the laser in the direction for increasing the light power emitted from the other end of the optical fiber and fixing the optical fiber at the point which gives the maximum power to the optical fiber.

摘要： The present invention relates to an optical module with a small size and improved mass-productivity. The optical module comprises a fiber stub including an optical fiber, a sleeve containing the fiber stub, and a semiconductor optical amplifying device. A Bragg fiber grating is formed in the optical fiber. The optical fiber is secured in the ferrule. The optical amplifying device and the grating form a laser cavity. Only a part of the hollow portion of the sleeve is filled with the fiber stub. One end face of the optical fiber is disposed at one end of the sleeve. The other end of the sleeve is hollow. The optical module acts as an optical receptacle. An optical plug can be inserted into the hollow end of the sleeve. This enables the laser light to be introduced into an external optical device.

摘要： An optical receiver comprises a PD for receiving an incident light from an optical fiber, a preamplifier IC for amplifying an electrical signal from the PD, a submount on which the PD and the preamplifier IC are mounted on the same plane, and a package on which the submount is mounted. The PD and the preamplifier IC are directly connected to each other by a wire, and these components are both mounted on the same submount. Therefore, the distance between the PD and the preamplifier IC can be reduced, and parasitic inductance, parasitic capacitance, etc. can be greatly reduced. As a result, an optical receiver is provided which has reduced parasitic inductance and parasitic capacitance, and which is optimum for high speed response.

摘要： Disclosed is a photodiode array which includes a plurality of p-i-n photodiodes arrayed on a semi-insulative semiconductor substrate, each photodiode including an n-type semiconductor layer grown on the substrate, an i-type semiconductor layer grown on the n-type semiconductor layer, a p-type semiconductor layer grown on the i-type semiconductor layer, an n-type electrode provided on the n-type semiconductor layer in a region exposed by partially removing the p-type semiconductor layer and the i-type semiconductor layer, and a p-type electrode provided on the p-type semiconductor layer. A trench is provided between the two adjacent photodiodes by partially removing the p-type semiconductor layer, the i-type semiconductor layer, and the n-type semiconductor layer. Consequently, the size and pitch of the photodiodes can be decreased and crosstalk between the photodiodes can be reduced. Also disclosed is an optical receiver device including the photodiode array.
