A regulator may include a supply chamber fluidly coupled to the dressing, a control chamber fluidly coupled to the dressing, a charging chamber fluidly coupled to the supply chamber through a port, and a regulator valve operable to control fluid communication through the port based on a pressure differential between the control chamber and a therapy pressure. The feedback system may include one or more mechanical feedback interfaces fluidly coupled to the regulator to provide a signal of at least one of an application of reduced-pressure therapy, a leak condition, a blockage condition, and a canister full condition.

The canister may also be fiuidly connected to a reduced pressure source through an outlet. At least a portion of the wall of the canister may be a membrane and may have the open edge of a flexible bag container fixed to the canister surrounding the perimeter of the membrane. The flexible bag may contain an osmotic agent capable of drawing absorbent from bodily fluid in the canister through the membrane and into the flexible bag.

Illustrative embodiments may include an apparatus or system for delivering negative-pressure to a tissue site, which can be used in conjunction with low-profile distribution components for wound therapy. Such apparatus may include a low-profile dressing interface or connector comprising at least two side-by-side fluid pathways fluidly coupled to a recessed space of the connector, one for providing negative pressure to a tissue interface or manifold and the other for sensing the negative pressure within the recessed space adjacent the tissue interface. In some embodiments, for example, the apparatus may comprise a first layer of polymeric film having an outer surface, an inner surface, and a plurality of features extending from the inner surface, and a second layer of polymeric film coupled to the first layer. The second layer may have an outer, tissue-facing surface and an inner surface coupled to the first layer and covering the plurality of features to form an enclosed space with the inner surface of the first layer and a plurality of flow channels within the enclosed space. The second layer also includes an aperture defining the recessed space adapted to fluidly coupling the enclosed space to the tissue interface.

The apparatus comprises a pump for supplying reduced pressure for application of reduced pressure to the tissue site and a motor coupled to the pump to propel the pump. The apparatus further comprises a drive system electrically coupled to the motor that includes a power source that provides a source of direct current power to the motor during an operational period at a substantially constant current and of sufficient magnitude to supply a targeted reduced pressure during the operational period. The drive system also includes a controller that monitors the pump's loading on the motor by measuring the voltage across the motor to determine whether the motor voltage remains within a predetermined operational range of voltages necessary for maintaining the reduced pressure supplied by the pump proximate to the targeted reduced pressure without directly measuring the reduced pressure using a pressure sensor.

A regulator passage extends between the charging chamber and the regulated chamber, and a valve body is adapted to control fluid communication through the regulator passage.
