    • A printer detects black marks BM formed at a constant interval along the length of recording paper by a detector disposed to the recording paper conveyance path at a position upstream from a printing position, positions the recording paper to a printing start position for printing on the recording paper based on the detection results from the detector, and positions the recording paper to a cutting position downstream from the printing position in order to cut the recording paper based on detection of a black mark BM after printing ends. When a power-off command is input, the printer starts conveying the recording paper forward, stops conveying the recording paper when a black mark BM is detected by the detector after conveyance starts, and then turns the power off.

    • Embodiments of the present invention relate to approaches to effectively let noise on a head slider bonded to a silicon substrate of a microactuator, escape to the ground. A head gimbal assembly (HGA) according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises a microactuator bonded to a gimbal tongue. The microactuator comprises a piezoelectric element and a movable part for moving in response to expansion or contraction of the piezoelectric element. The motion of the movable part causes a head slider to slightly move. The microactuator further comprises a conductive path including an impurity-containing silicon layer formed on the silicon substrate. The conductive path transmits electric charge of the head slider to a suspension. The conductivity of the impurity-containing silicon layer is lower than the one of the silicon substrate so that the noise charge of the head slider may escape to the suspension.

    • Access control with easy change/extension is implemented. There is provided a system for controlling access to data, the system having: a first storage unit for storing a plurality of attribute values respectively selected from a plurality of integers which are relatively prime and identifying a plurality of attributes of users, in association with respective users; a second storage unit for storing a product of at least two attribute values which are common to users belonging to a set of users, in association with respective data to be accessed, to show the set of users which are targets of controlling access to the data; a calculation unit for reading out, from the first storage unit, a plurality of attribute values corresponding to a user who requests access, and calculating a product of at least two of the plurality of read attribute values; and a control unit for performing a process for accepting the user as a target of controlling access to the data, on condition that the calculated product of attribute values matches a product of attribute values stored in the second storage unit in association with the data to be accessed.
