    • The invention relates to a display device using the DLP (Digital Light Processing) technology. This invention is in the field of digital cinema and content protection, where camcorder acquisition followed by immediate illegal distribution creates important revenue losses for content owners. According to the invention, the addressing of the display device is modified in order to introduce an anti-copy processing. The display device comprises modulation means for modulating the colour or brightness of video data of video pictures received at a first rate and for outputting at a second rate modulated video data, said second rate being a multiple of the first rate, subfield coding means for coding said modulated video data into subfield data, said subfield data being delivered at the second rate, and addressing means for addressing the array with said subfield data at a third rate. Advantageously, the third rate is not a multiple of the first rate.

    • With the new plasma display panel technology new kinds of artifacts can occur in video pictures due to the principle that brightness control is done with a modulation of small lighting pulses in a number of periods called sub-fields. These artifacts are commonly described as ‘dynamic false contour effect’. A technique called bit line repeat coding has been developed for reducing the false contour effect. According to this technique sub-field coding is done with common (CSF) and normal sub-fields (SF) where for the common sub-fields (CSF) identical entries in the sub-field code words of two or more corresponding pixels on two or more pixel lines are used. In this specific sub-field coding method some cases will occur in which an error has to be made due to the reduced flexibility in encoding produced by the need to have the same code on common sub-fields (CSF). The general idea of the invention is now to put the coding failures on the higher video levels of the two or more pixels being grouped together. Further improvements concern picture content analysis and or motion detection for controlling the switching between different sub-field coding modes and a specific adapted dithering pattern for use with bit line repeat coding.

    • The invention relates to a method of processing source images which is intended to combat their copying by a camcorder or a camera during their display, for example in a cinema hall. The source image sequence represents a scene. According to the invention, the method comprises the following steps: detection, in the said scene, of at least one zone corresponding to an object of the scene, selection of the entirety of the pixels of the said at least one zone in at least one source image of the sequence; and processing of the said at least one source image to modify the color of the selected pixels or the spectral composition of the light emitted by the selected pixels so that the perceived color of the selected pixels is unchanged in the processed source image with respect to the source image.
