    • The surveillance system includes a remote monitoring station, at least one mobile radio (e.g. a handheld radio), and one or more deployable sensors each for unattended surveillance to transmit a detection signal in response to a detected activity. A deployable gateway surveillance node includes a controller and at least one wireless transceiver cooperating therewith to transmit a notification to the remote monitoring station based upon a received detection signal, and determine and transmit a voice-message status report, based upon the received detection signal, to the at least one mobile radio identifying the deployable gateway surveillance node and corresponding deployable sensor for the received detection signal. The voice message status report may further include information regarding a status of a communication link between the deployable gateway surveillance node and the remote monitoring station, a received detection signal strength, detected activity information and/or a status of a positioning information communication link between the deployable gateway surveillance node and a positioning/navigation system.

    • A method of repairing a thermal barrier coating (16) on a component (10) designed for use in a hostile thermal environment, such as turbine, combustor and augmentor components of a gas turbine engine. The method more particularly involves repairing a thermal barrier coating (16) on a component (10) that has suffered localized spallation (20) of the thermal barrier coating (16). After cleaning the surface area (22) of the component (10) exposed by the localized spallation (20), a ceramic paste (24) comprising a ceramic powder in a binder is applied to the surface area (22) of the component (10). The binder is then reacted to yield a ceramic-containing repair coating (26) that covers the surface area of the component and comprises the ceramic powder in a matrix of a material formed when the binder was reacted. The binder is preferably a ceramic precursor material that can be converted immediately to a ceramic or allowed to thermally decompose over time to form a ceramic, such that the repair coating (26) has a ceramic matrix. The repair method can be performed while the component (10) remains installed, e.g., in a gas turbine engine. Immediately after the reaction step, the gas turbine engine can resume operation during which the binder is further reacted/converted and the strength of the repair coating increases.

    • An apparatus and method for packaging articles includes a tray having a cavity adapted to receive the one or more articles therein. The cavity is defined by a pair of upstanding side walls, which extend slightly above the upper surface of the one or more articles when placed within the cavity. A retainer is adapted for securement to the upstanding side walls, and retains the one or more articles within the cavity. The retainer prevents outward movement of the articles from the cavity, and leaves a major portion of the articles exposed after packaging for viewing by a potential consumer.
