摘要： Thermosetting elastomeric coating compositions are disclosed. The resinous binder of the coating compositions is based on a hard polyester polyol containing cyclic moieties plasticized with a blend of soft polyurethane polyols, one of which has a high molecular weight and one of which has a low molecular weight, and cured with a curing agent capable of reacting with active hydrogens, for example, an aminoplast curing agent. The coating compositions are resistant to solvent popping and are particularly useful on elastomeric substrates such as high density polyurethane foams, as well as on metal substrates such as steel and aluminum.

摘要： Novel thermosetting resinous compositions are disclosed. The compositions comprise the reaction product of a polymeric polyol having a cured glass transition temperature less than 20.degree. C. with a substantial stoichiometric excess of an aminoplast curative. The cured compositions are hard with good durability and surprising flexibility for such high aminoplast loadings.These compositions are particularly useful as coatings for resilient and rubbery substrates such as foam rubber, polyurethane foam and vinyl foam and on soft metal surfaces such as mild steel and aluminum.

The polymer contains at least one of the following polymer chain structures: —{(M)p—(G)q}x— or —{(G)q—(M)p}x— wherein M is a residue, that is free of carbamate functionality, of at least one ethylenically unsaturated radically polymerizable monomer; G is a residue, that has carbamate functionality, of at least one ethylenically unsaturated radically polymerizable monomer; p and q represent average numbers of residues occurring in a block of residues in each polymer chain structure; and p, q, and x are each independently selected for each structure such that the carbamate functional polymer has a number average molecular weight of at least 250. Also provided by the present invention are methods of coating a substrate using compositions of the present invention and substrates coated by such methods, as well as color-plus-clear composite coatings.

The flow control agent is a block copolymer prepared by controlled radical polymerization and comprises: (i) a first block containing residues of at least one first ethylenically unsaturated radically polymerizable monomer that is free of hydroxy functionality; and (ii) a second block containing residues of at least one second ethylenically unsaturated radically polymerizable monomer that is free of hydroxy functionality. The second monomer of the flow control agent has a calculated Tg of at least 20° C. greater than that of the first monomer. The first and second blocks of the flow control agent may each independently contain a minor amount of hydroxy functional monomer residues.

The copolymer may be blended with an amine modified epoxy resin to form a coating composition particularly suitable for application onto metal surfaces such as can stock.

The compositions have high epoxy content providing for excellent physical and chemical properties. In addition, the compositions are formulated such that they have a relatively low melt viscosity which provides for good flow and excellent coating appearance.
