    • A spinal rod connector assembly for use with a vertebral bone screw has an articulating clamp for 1) fixing an orientation of the spinal rod connector assembly relative to and on the vertebral bone screw, and 2) attaching a separate spinal rod onto the spinal rod connector assembly in concert with one another. The articulating clamp resides in a body of the spinal rod connector assembly and transfers a received downward force laterally to a spinal rod component of the spinal rod connector assembly which is configured to abut the spinal rod and hold the spinal rod between itself and a spinal rod holder of the spinal rod connector assembly. The articulating clamp thus improves the force transfer efficacy of the system.

    • A surgical hand tool is provided having a plumb assembly fixed to a dome housing element. The plumb assembly is fixed to rotate freely in two axes of rotation in at least two rotational planes. A tool attachment coupling such as bushing for receiving a surgical instrument such as a drill or tap is fixed to the dome housing. A handle can be fixed to the device for use and orientation by a surgeon or other user. The hand tool can be used as a protractor for orienting surgical instruments such as pedicle screws in at least two angles on two planes for accurately applying said instruments into the pedicles of a vertebra. Generally, the tool of the present invention can be used to accurately orient an instrument relative to a body in at least two angles in two planes.

    • A ratchet wrench with a releasable socket which is rotatable in a handle circular pocket and the socket extends on the wrench for only the thickness of the handle and does not protrude beyond the handle. The socket is symmetrical in its configuration and is therefore reversible in its position in the pocket and it still produces the same rotational drive. A pawl and spring are on the handle, and the pawl is snug with the socket to hold the socket in an axially fixed position on the handle.     • A selective compression and distraction instrument useful in manipulating bone, such as a person's spine during surgery. There are two handle sections and one jaw section. One handle section produces a compression action and the other produces a distraction action. The user determines which action to apply, and then selects the appropriate handle section which is releasably attached to the one jaw section. The jaw section is arranged to have two tips, and the jaw section moves the tips in a parallel relationship toward and away relative to each other. The tips are releasably and interchangeably attachable to the jaw section, and they provide selective spacing of tip blades from each other.
