    • An image processing apparatus for processing multilevel image data including values of respective color components includes an adding unit configured to add quantization errors to the respective values of the color components of a target pixel, an output determination unit configured to perform quantization to determine output values of the respective color components of the target pixel based on a combination of the values of the respective color components to which the quantization errors are added, and an error calculation unit configured to calculate quantization errors of the respective color components of the target pixel based on the output values of the respective color components and the values of the respective color components to which the quantization errors are added. In addition, a distribution weight determination unit is configured to determine distribution weights for the respective color components in accordance with a combination of the values of the respective color components of the target pixel, and an error diffusion unit is configured to distribute the calculated quantization errors of the respective color components of the target pixel to values of the respective color components of neighboring pixels in accordance with the determined distribution weights.

    • An image processing apparatus processes multivalued color image data that includes a plurality of color components. The apparatus includes an adding unit to add per-color-component quantization error values from a neighboring pixel to respective ones of a plurality of color components included in a pixel of interest, and a quantization unit to correlate a sum of the values of each of the color components to which the error value has been added by the adding unit to a sum of values after conversion, and deciding the value of each color component after conversion upon distributing the sum of pixel values after the conversion in accordance with the ratio of each of the color components before conversion. In addition, a coefficient decision unit decides diffusion coefficients, which diffuse quantization error to neighboring pixels, based upon the value of each of the plurality of color components included in the pixel of interest.

    • Disclosed are an image processing apparatus and method for the purpose of preventing overlapping of dots between two colors in low-density areas in color pseudo-grayscale processing, thereby obtaining excellent placement of the dots of each color. When a color image is binarized, an error is added to a respective one of color components (I0,I1), after which output decision means (2) decides an output value in accordance with the value of the sum in such a manner that the sum of pixel values after conversion will be rendered constant. Error calculation means (3-0, 3-1) calculate differences between pixel values before and after binarization as errors, and error diffusion means (9-0, 9-1) calculate values to be diffused to a neighboring pixel. Weighting coefficients used at such time are decided in accordance with combinations of values of the color components (I0,I1) of pixel values in the original image. The output value decided by the output decision means (2) is printed out by a printer or the like.

    • Multi-valued image data is separated into data in units of nozzle groups of the individual colors of a printhead, and each divided multi-valued image data is converted into n-valued image data consisting of a plurality of bits. Based on the n-valued image data of the corresponding colors, print codes are generated and are transmitted to a printer apparatus. The printer apparatus receives the print codes, stores them in print buffers of the corresponding colors, and generates print data based on the print codes using mask patterns set in correspondence with image data of the individual colors.
