    • PURPOSE:To improve detection precision by providing a diaphragm wall at the liquid phase area of a fuel and anolyte supply system so that fuel vapor which permeates through the diaphragm wall is sent by a blower to a gas detector for detection. CONSTITUTION:A diaphragm 14 is provided at the wall of an anolyte reservoir 12 in contact with an anolyte 13. The diaphragm 14 is surrounded by a detection box 16, wherein a blower 15 is installed in lower opening thereof and a gas detector 7 and a thermister 8 used for compensating temperatures detected by the gas detector are installed in upper opening thereof and connected to a detection circuit 6. Fuel vapor which permeates through the diaphragm 14 is sent by the blower 15 to gas detector 7 and detected. Since fuel gas which permeates through the diaphragm 14 is immediately sent to the gas detector 7 by the blower 15, it can be detected with a high precision, coinciding with the fuel concentration in the anolyte 13. Also, because of intervention of the diaphragm 14, no sulfuric acid bleeds and a decline of reliability of the gas detector 7 due to corrosion is avoided.

    • PURPOSE:To make it possible to obtain a stable performance for a long term by joining an ion exchange membrane on the surface of which high molecular acid is produced by graft polymerization and electrodes in the catalyser layer of which a solution having sulfonic group is impregnated. CONSTITUTION:On the surface of an ion exchange membrane 3 a high molecular acid e.g. polystyrene sulfonic acid 6 is produced by graft polymerization, and in the catalyser layer of electrodes 1, 2 a solution having sulfonic group e.g. Nafion solution 7 is impregnated, and then the said membrane 3 and electrodes 1, 2 are joined together. Thus the ion exchange membrane 3 on the surface of which polystyrene sulfonic acid 6 is produced by graft polymerization and the electrodes 1, 2 in the catalyser layer of which Nafion solution 7 having sulfonic group is impregnated are joined together. The joining of the ion exchange membrane 3 and the electrodes 1, 2 is performed so easily and perfectly that the flowing out of the sulfuric acid used with the ion exchange membrane 3 can be eliminated. Thereby the joining process of the ion exchange membrane and the electrodes can be shortened to obtain a stable performance for a long term.

    • PURPOSE:To cause no deficiency of the electrolyte of a negative electrode even in case of eventual leakage of an electrolytic liquid from the negative electrode to an air supply system while making the electrolytic liquid hard to leak by giving a material having an ion exchange radical equal to that of the electrolyte to a catalytic layer of the negative electrode as well as to the boundary face between the catalytic layer and the electrolytic layer. CONSTITUTION:A negative electrode 3 is formed of a porous electrode basic body 31 and a catalytic layer 32 attached to it. Then, the negative electrode 3 is impregnated with a high-molecular electrolyte having a sulphonic acid radical or the impregnated negative electrode is further fired while giving the electrolyte, which does not spring out from the negative electrode. Polyethylene sulphonic acid, polystylene sulphonic acid, polystylene, divinyl benzene sulphonic acid and further an electrolyte, in which a sulphonic acid radial is given to a fluoro resin base, are used for the high-molecular electrolyte having the sulphonic acid radical. Thereby, a negative electrode made of gelatinized high-molecular acid is arranged to lie between the electrolytic layers for giving the electrolyte and simultaneously having an effect as a holding layer of the electrolytic liquid, thus enabling a cell to maintain high performance and a stable characteristic for a long time.

    • PURPOSE:To realize a preferable discharging without causing temperature runaway of a secondary battery even for a quick power demand at the time of dealing with a system failure by operating a power storage system while varying the set temperature of the secondary battery depending on the charged amount thereof. CONSTITUTION:Power supply/receiving request of an AC power system 1 and a charging/discharging request of a secondary battery from a system state evaluation unit 4 are predicted and the set temperature of a battery stack 3 is varied while taking account of the charged amount of the battery fed from a battery charged amount evaluation unit 5 when power supply/receiving operation is carried out. When power is absorbed (received) from the system upon occurrence of a fault thereon, a charging battery group having low charged amount at a high preset temperature is employed in the charging operation. When power is fed (supplied) to an opposite system, a discharging battery group having high charged amount and a low preset temperature is employed for discharging operation. Consequently, the system can be operated while keeping the battery temperature at a prescribed level or below even in the case of quick power supply to a system fault resulting in a suitable secondary battery power storage system.
