    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a catalyst life by depositing palladium more on the surface layer part of a porous carbon carrier than in this carbon carrier and forming the palladium particles in the surface layer part of the carbon carrier to the diameter larger than the diameter of the palladium in the carrier at the time of depositing the palladium on the carbon carrier. SOLUTION: The catalyst for hydrogenation deposited with the palladium on the porous carbon carrier is formed by adding the carbon carrier into an aq. soln. of a palladium salt to adsorb part of the palladium salt on the carbon carrier, then adding a reducing agent to the soln., thereby reducing the palladium salt and depositing the palladium on the surface of the carbon carrier. At this time, the palladium is deposited more on the surface layer part of the carbon carrier than the inside of the carbon carrier and the palladium particles of the surface layer part of the carbon carrier is formed to the diameter larger than the diameter of the palladium particles within the carrier. In addition, the pH of the aq. soln. of the palladium salt is set at a range of 0.7 to 2.0 in order to control the particle size distribution of the palladium particles and the position on the carbon carrier on which the palladium particles are deposited.

    • PURPOSE:To ensure that energized heating is stable by providing an electrode on both ends consisting of stacked corrugated strips and place strips of metal material or corrugated sheets strips, then winding the electrode around a core material, and constituting a core part for circulating an exhaust gas in an axial direction. CONSTITUTION:An electrode plate 3 is provided on both ends of the constituent member of a strip core part consisting of plane sheets arranged, and one electrode plate 3 is welded to a core material 2 and wound around the latter, with an insulating material 7 sandwiched between the electrode plate 3 and the core material 2 to constitute a core part for circulating an exhaust gas. An area between the electrodes is composed of stacked corrugated and plane sheets of metal, so that if the electrodes are energized, an electric current for heating the core part is scattered, resulting in a reduced electric resistance and a consequent drop in the voltage required for application of a specified power. Thus a shortcircuiting current between energizing members which constitute the core part is suppressed and the electric performance is stable. Further, the electrode 3 is composed of a flexible metal sheet, and also the corrugated sheets 5 welded to the electrode at an internal for securing a space which enables the exhaust gas to pass through.
