The second optical fibers 6b are disconnected from the first optical fibers 6a at the junctures 38 and the second optical fibers 6b are hauled and taken off from the optical fiber branching module 4 side when the wiring between the splitter module 3 and the optical fiber branching module is removed.

SOLUTION: In an apparatus, an optical fiber cable 1, a wide wavength band-type photocoupler 10, control devices 25, 26, a lid 43 for an optical connector adaptor and the like are provided. An optical switch 15 and a control light source 30 are controlled by the control device 26. Control light is inserted into the side of the optical transmission edge 4 of the optical fiber cable 1 via the wide wavelength band-type photocoupler 10 and an optical fiber 3. When an optical connector plug 41 is not placed on an optical connector adaptor 41, arrived optical light hits the lid 43 for the optical connector adaptor, and it is displayed so as to be visible. In addition, when the optical connector plug 47 is placed on the optical connector adaptor 41, the covering of an optical fiber cable 46 is bent, and the control light is detected by a detector so as to be controlled.

When the driving voltage of the modulator 32 is set under predetermined conditions, the intensity of the test signal light becomes the maximum, the test signal light pulse is incident to an optical fiber 8 to be tested, and its back scattering light is received by a coherent receiver 9.

The apparatus 7 directs a test light to the fibers 4-1-4-5 through an optical branch circuit 3 and the lights returning through the fiber 4-1 and the filters 6-1-6-5 are measured. In this regard, an interferential light having optical frequency variable with time is employed as the test light and the fibers 4-1-4-5 are identified individually based on the frequency distribution of a beat signal produced through interference of the reflected lights from the filters 6-1-6-5.

摘要： PURPOSE:To obtain a small-sized optical pulse source of high output, by forming a ring type optical waveguide on a quartz based substrate, and constituting optical amplification medium by adding rare earth elements to a part of the optical waveguide. CONSTITUTION:In a ring type optical waveguide 14, an Si layer to which a very small amount of titanium and germanium is added, i.e., a core layer, is formed on a flat quartz substrate 11. On the core layer, a waveguide circuit mask pattern is drawn, and then the part except the mask is eliminated by etching. Thus a waveguide core is formed, and a clad is formed by depositing Si on the side surface and the upper surface of the core. Optical amplification medium also is formed by adding rare earth elements like erbium together with titanium and germanium. An optical pulse light source can be realized by forming the ring type optical waveguide 14 or the like on the quartz substrate 11 of several cm square and about 1mm in thickess, so that the total size of a device can be remarkably reduced.
