    • The invention relates to an improvement in receivers for receiving broadcast video data for generating a video display from said data and also to the method of displaying said data. The invention provides for a memory into which received data can be directed and said data may also at the same time or previously have been used to generate a video display on a display screen. The data in the memory can be called up to generate a video display thereafter and the speed of the display may be selected so as to provide, for example, a slow motion or freeze frame display. The facility allows the user to select to regenerate a display which they may already have seen at the initial video display and further to generate the display in a slow motion sequence. The memory can be updated with newly received data. In addition, or alternatively, the memory may be provided to receive packets of data which are selected for storage and said packets of data in conjunction to provide a data sequence which can be selected to be viewed.

    • A defibrillation lead provided with an elongated defibrillation electrode and a bipolar electrode pair for cardiac pacing and sensing. The cardiac pacing and sensing electrodes comprise an extendable helical electrode and a ring or ring tip electrode located on or adjacent the distal end of the lead body. Inter-electrode separation for pacing and sensing is provided by means of insulation applied to the helical electrode, leaving only the tip portion exposed. The overall configuration of the lead allows the defibrillation electrode to be located very close to the distal end of the lead body, while preserving the ability to employ a bipolar electrode pair for cardiac pacing and sensing.

    • A combined pacing and cardioversion lead system with internal electrical switching components for unipolar or bipolar sensing of electrograms, pacing at normal pacing voltages and cardioversion or defibrillation. In bipolar embodiments, an indifferent electrode, closely spaced to a sensing and pacing electrode, is coupled in common through the integral switching circuitry to a large surface area cardioversion electrode. In these embodiments, pacing and sensing is accomplished through a pair of conductors extending through the lead system to the closely spaced active and indifferent electrode pair. When cardioversion energy is applied to the indifferent electrode, the cardioversion energy is also directed to the cardioversion electrode through operation of the switching circuitry in response to the magnitude of the applied cardioversion pulse. In unipolar embodiments, a distal sensing and pacing electrode is coupled through integral switching circuitry to a large surface area cardioversion electrode. In these embodiments, only a single conductor extending through the lead to the pacing and sensing electrode is required. When cardioversion energy is applied to the pacing and sensing electrode, the cardioversion energy is also directed to the cardioversion electrode through operation of the switching circuitry in response to the magnitude of the applied cardioversion pulse.

    • Means which allows the storage and subsequent retrieval of data on a storage means such as, for example, a storage means in the form of, and known as, a hard disk drive. The storage of data is in the form of video, audio and/or auxiliary data transmitted from a remote location and received by receiver apparatus for the processing and subsequent generation of video, audio, and/or auxiliary data via a television screen connected to or including the receiver. In some instances the data is not decoded and displayed immediately, and the decoding and/or the display of the data, when it does occur may be obtained from the storage means. The control system of the storage means includes a First In First Out (FIFO) buffer which in conjunction with a Central Processing Unit (CPU) controls the generation of the control signals and the storage of the incoming data.
