    • A method and apparatus for preventing a plurality of stations in a wireless local area network (WLAN) where a plurality of high throughput (HT) stations and a plurality of 802.11 legacy stations coexist from colliding are provided. The method includes generating a data frame having an HT format by inserting information indicating that a medium will be unavailable until the reception of an acknowledgement (ACK) frame is concluded into a physical layer (PHY) header having a format that can be interpreted by both the HT stations and the legacy stations; transmitting the data frame; and transmitting a reset frame which resets network allocation vectors (NAVs) of a plurality of stations which have heard the data frame, and has a format that can be interpreted by both the HT stations and the legacy stations. The apparatus includes a data frame generation unit; a reset frame generation unit; and a transmission unit.

    • A method and apparatus for preventing a plurality of stations in a wireless local area network (WLAN) from colliding with each other when accessing a medium are provided. In the method, an access point (AP) determines the transmission capabilities of a plurality of stations in a basic service set (BSS) of the AP, determines the format of control frames or data frames which have a high throughput (HT) format to be used in the BSS of the AP, and notifies the stations of the result of the determination. Therefore, it is possible to adaptively choose and use an optimum method of preventing a plurality of stations in a WLAN from colliding with each other when accessing a medium according to the circumstances in a WLAN by referencing the transmission capabilities of a plurality of stations in the WLAN.

    • A link adaption method for multi input multi output (MIMO) system having a multi-antenna structure and a communicating method of MIMO stations in a basic service set (BSS), which constitutes a wireless communication network. The communicating method includes receiving from a predetermined MIMO station, the number of MIMO antennas and transmission rates supported by the respective MIMO stations. It further includes, storing one or more channel estimations indicators obtained while receiving various framed form the predetermined MIMO station for each MIMO antenna and for each transmission rate supported by the MIMO antenna, determining the threshold levels of the channel estimation for each MIMO antenna, and comparing the threshold levels with an average of channels estimation indicators for each MIMO antenna. The transmission rate is determined based on the comparison result and the data is then transmitted to the predetermined MIMO station ad the determined transmission rate.
