    • The invention is a shipping container blank whereby all surfaces and edges are sealed by an overlying a plastic film material. A container subsequently made from the blank is rendered highly water resistant. The film material is applied to both sides of the blank and severed from the supply source. The covered blank is then heated above the softening point of the film. The film becomes bonded to the surfaces of the blank and sags around the edges and into any openings so that the film on the two sides of the blank come into contact and are sealed to each other. The edges and any slits and cutouts are then trimmed, as by a die cutter, while preserving the seals along the edges. Containers made by the process can generally be recycled, in contrast to wax or resin impregnated corrugated board.

    • Controlled release compositions releasing an effective amount of biologically active material such as pesticide into the environment over an extended period of time are disclosed. The compositions comprise an intimate admixture of an organic polymer and a component incorporating a biologically active material wherein the biologically active material is released by molecular diffusion through the matrix of the polymer at the surfaces exposed to the environment. The component including the biologically active material is incorporated in the polymer in amounts sufficient that diffusion of the component at the surfaces exposed to the environment results in loss of structural integrity and/or fraction of the polymer to thereby expose new surfaces to decomposition for further release of the biologically active material resulting in a rate of release over an extended period of time in proportion to that necessary to offer protection.

    • A resin for OSB comprising an aqueous resole reaction product of phenol, formaldehyde, alkaline metal hydroxide or carbonate, urea and a degraded lignin polymer having 35-65% solids, a pH of 8-13 and a viscosity 50-1000 centipoises. The phenol and formaldehyde are present in a molar ratio of 1.5 to 3.4 moles formaldehyde to 1 mole phenol and are 40 to 85% of the total solids added to the mixture. In one embodiment they are 50 to 75% of the total solids added to the mixture. The alkaline metal hydroxide or carbonate are 5 to 20% of the total solids added to the mixture.
