    • A method and system for automatically managing changes to organizational data in a unified messaging (UM) platform are disclosed. A database snapshot is retrieved from a client human resources database. The database snapshot includes human resources information organized in an organizational hierarchy. A change is detected in the database snapshot from a previous database snapshot, and organizational data in the UM platform is automatically modified to reflect the detected change in the database snapshot. When the change is detected in the database snapshot, it is possible for the UM platform to automatically compose and send a message to at least one user associated with the change including potential modifications of the organization data. The organizational data in the UM platform can then be modified only in response to receiving approval of the potential modifications of the organizational data from at least one user associated with the change.

    • A sender is identified based at least in part on originator identification information associated with an incoming communication. A message recipient is then determined based at least in part on the identified sender and one or more databases associated with message recipients by comparing the originator identification information to one or more entries in the one or more databases. The incoming communication is routed to the determined message recipient of a shared mailbox of a unified messaging system. An intended recipient is identified among the owners of the shared unified messaging mailbox owners. Only the determined message recipient is notified of the deposited message, based on the dynamic information derived from each deposited message.

An example border element comprises a network interface to receive a VoIP network registration request message from a VoIP endpoint, a catastrophe detector to determine whether a catastrophe has been detected, a backoff time module to compute a backoff time using a priority assigned to the VoIP endpoint and an expected number of VoIP network registration request messages, a recovery module to determine whether the VoIP endpoint is currently registered with the VoIP network, and to send a response message having a header representing the backoff time to the VoIP endpoint when the catastrophe has been detected and the VoIP endpoint is not currently registered with a VoIP network, and a signaling processor to process the VoIP network registration request message when the VoIP endpoint is currently registered with the VoIP network.

    • A method for customization of communication session request notifications based on user preference information includes receiving a communication session invitation at a service provider. The service provider determines the intended target of the invitation, and identifies preference information associated with the target. In an embodiment, the preference information is associated with a user of the target communication device. The preference information includes a set of identifiers for multimedia content associated with particular users, groups, regions, or the like, or any combination thereof. Based on the session invitation, the service provider determines a particular identifier and provides the associated multimedia content to the target device. The preference information can be adjusted by a user to customize notifications for requests from particular users, groups, or regions, or any combination thereof.
