摘要： A sharps collector comprising a container for holding, storing, and disposing syringes. The sharps collector includes a disposable receptacle and a decorative cover. The receptacle preferably has two elongated apertures and chutes associated with each aperture. The chutes are designed to guide syringes into the receptacle once the syringes pass through an aperture. The chutes also obstruct syringes which are already contained in the receptacle from protruding or re-emerging out of the receptacle. The decorative cover is reusable and fits over and attaches to the receptacle. When the cover is attached to the receptacle, it conceals the apertures and chutes of the receptacle. The cover includes an elongated aperture through which a shuttle is accessed. The shuttle directs syringes to the concealed apertures and chutes of the receptacle. The syringes to be disposed are placed in the shuttle and the shuttle is manually shifted such that a syringe is pushed towards an aperture and chute. The syringe then falls through the aperture, is guided by the chute, and ultimately falls into the receptacle and is contained within the receptacle. The cover can be detached from a receptacle when that receptacle is ready to be discarded.

摘要： A retractable safety syringe may have a needle, a syringe body, a shaft seal, and a plunger assembly. A proximal portion of the body and a piston of the plunger may define a vacuum chamber. The plunger assembly may comprise a shaft coupled to a piston. The shaft may have at least one non-engaging portion and at least one engaging portion. The plunger assembly is movable between a storage position and working positions. In the storage position, little or no force is exerted on the shaft seal by the non-engaging portion. In the working positions, the engaging portion is in sealing engagement with the shaft seal to seal the vacuum chamber. Stopper movement of the retractable safety syringe may be reduced or eliminated if the retractable safety syringe is prefilled.

The retractable safety syringe may have a needle holder which is removably engageable to a distal portion of a syringe body. When the piston is traversed toward the engaged position, the external variable vacuum compartment produces a retraction force. When the piston is traversed to an engaged position, the piston engages the needle holder and disengages the needle holder from the syringe body. The medical professional may release a thumb pressure on a thumb platform of a plunger. At this point, the retraction force of the external variable vacuum compartment may traverse the piston along with the needle holder and needle toward the retracted position and into the syringe body. An internal variable vacuum compartment may also create a retraction force to assist retraction of the needle holder and needle into the syringe body.

摘要： The embodiments of the present tracheostomy valves include a flexible diaphragm abutting a rib shaped substantially as a flat plate. Opposite the rib, the diaphragm abuts a boss and forms an uninterrupted seal therewith. As the tracheostomized patient inhales, the diaphragm bends about the rib, interrupting the seal and allowing air to flow smoothly into the valve. The features of the various embodiments contribute to a positive seal at all times except during inhalation, and low resistance to airflow through the valve during inhalation.
