摘要： A multilayer interference reflecting film has individual optical layers arranged to form optical repeat units throughout the film. Each of a plurality of optical repeat units has six individual layers, at least three of which have different refractive indices at a design wavelength lambda 0 . Individual layers having nominally the same refractive index and physical thickness, arbitrarily labeled "A", "B", "C", and "D", are arranged in a six-layer optical repeat unit in a cyclic permutation of CACDBD, where the A and B layers are each thicker than the C and D layers. The thicknesses and refractive indices of the individual layers can be selected to suppress the second, third, and fourth order reflections, while reflecting light at the design wavelength.

摘要： A dispersing element for a rear projection screen assembly is sensitive to the polarization of the light passing through the element. In particular, the element disperses light having a first polarization differently from light having a second polarization orthogonal to the first polarization. The dispersing element may be aligned with a polarization axis neither parallel nor perpendicular to the polarization of the light passing through the element. The dispersing element may also be employed with a polarizer to remove unwanted light that propagates through the dispersing element. The dispersing element may also be rotatably mounted relative to a polarized light source so as to vary the angle between the polarization axis of the element and the polarization direction of the light.

The system utilizes an LCD panel with an LED backlight having a 4-color red-green-blue-yellow pixel array and wavelength selective glasses to isolate each channel by color. The system is based on alternating left and right image frames on an LCD panel. One of the frames is illuminated by the red-green-blue LEDs, and the other frame is shown in gray scale and illuminated by the yellow LEDs. The viewer wears glasses where the left lens or filter passes only the spectrum of light used for the left channel of data, and the right lens or filter passes only the spectrum of light used for the right channel of data.

A polarizing beam splitter (PBS) contains at least one prism having at least one major surface and having a refractive index of at least about 1.6 and the birefringent film disposed on the major surface of the prism. The present invention provides a unique birefringent multi-layer film having at least a first material and a second material. After uniaxial stretching, the film exhibits a refractive index difference of less than about 0.15 units in the stretched direction.
