摘要： A water-resistant telecommunication cable is disclosed comprising a solid and compact element (7) surrounding at least one optical transmitting element (3), wherein said element comprises a vinyl alcohol/vinyl acetate copolymer having a hydrolysis degree of about 60 % to about 95 % and a polymerisation degree higher than about 2,500; at least a first solid plasticizer, having a melting point between 50° and 110°C, and a second solid plasticizer, having a melting point equal or higher than 140°C, in an amount of about 10-30 and 1-10 parts by weight per hundred parts by weight of the copolymer, respectively; the water-soluble polymer material showing: a complex modulus (G*) equal or higher than 2.5 106 Mpa; a ratio of the viscous modulus to the elastic modulus (tanσ)equal or lower than 2.30; a glass transition temperature (Tg) of about 20° to about 35ºC.

摘要： The invention relates to a process for manufacturing a self-extinguishing cable comprising at least one transmissive element and at least one flame-retardant coating in a position radially external to said at least one transmissive element, wherein said at least one coating includes an expanded flame-retardant polymeric material comprising:(a) at least one expandable polymer; (b) at least one expanding agent; (c) at least one flame-retardant inorganic filler, in an amount of from 100 parts by weight to 250 parts by weight with respect to 100 parts by weight of said at least one expandable polymer; the process comprising the following steps: (i) feeding the flame-retardant polymeric material to an extruding apparatus, therein melting and mixing it; (ii) passing the flame-retardant polymeric material obtained in step (i) through at least one static mixer; (iii) depositing by extrusion the flame-retardant polymeric material obtained in step (ii) onto said at least one transmissive element conveyed to said extruding apparatus. The process of the invention allows to optimise the homogeneity and to maximize the expansion of said flameretardant polymeric material. The cable so obtained is provided with both good mechanical and flame-retardant properties.

摘要： A process for manufacturing a water-resistant telecommunication cable is disclosed, the cable comprising a solid and compact element comprising a water-soluble polymer material comprising a vinyl alcohol/vinyl acetate copolymer having a hydrolysis degree of 60-95% and a polymerisation degree higher than 1,800- and at least one solid low-melting and one solid high melting plasticizers; the process comprising producing in continuous the water-soluble polymer material by separately feeding in sequence a multi-screw extruder, in the flow direction, with the copolymer and the high melting plasticizer, melting and mixing them while transporting them through the extruder, and with the low melting plasticizer, melting and mixing it with the copolymer and the high melting plasticizer, subsequently homogenizing the copolymer and the plasticizers and finally discharging the melt, at a temperature lower or equal to 205°C. The invention further concerns a process for extruding the above PVA based water-soluble polymer material.The process of the invention allows to extrude PVA with an enhanced productivity and reproducibility requiring shorter times for absorbing the plasticizers onto the polymer.

摘要： Optical fibers are produced by means of a direct sleeving technique that allows the collapsing of the outer jacket tube onto the inner core rod to be achieved directly during the drawing phase of optical fiber manufacture. In the course of the optical fiber manufacturing process, a preform having an enclosed annular gap/cavity is produced. The preform is produced by first aligning a rod within a sleeve tube using a centering device which also creates an air-tight seal. A vacuum may be maintained in the annular gap/cavity of this assembly. A heat source is then applied in order to collapse the extreme ends of said tube onto the respective extreme ends of the rod, the traverse speed of said heat source moving from one end to the other being controlled so to avoid any cracking in the final preform. The obtained preform is then mounted onto a drawing tower where the fiber is drawn while simultaneously collapsing the remaining portion of the tube onto the rod. A device for aligning a rod within a tube, such as used in the preform manufacturing process, is also disclosed and comprises a threated body and rings, o-rings and splitrings.
