The second interlocking structure is complementary in shape to the first interlocking structure and is in mechanical interlocking engagement with the first interlocking structure. The mechanical interlocking engagement is releasable without fracture of at least one of the first and second interlocking structures. A method of using the tamper-evidencing closure is also disclosed.

摘要： A closure for a container having an opening includes a base cap and an overcap that form a chamber adjacent the opening which is sealed from the contents of the container by a frangible membrane having an inclined line of weakness and by a hinge member having a pocket extending downward adjacent lower and upper terminuses of the line of weakness. The overcap includes a cutting member received within the pocket that severs the line of weakness upon substantial rotation of the overcap with respect to the base cap. A pushing member may cooperate with a cam member to deflect open the membrane upon severance. The pocket may include a stop for the cutting member. The base cap may include a cylindrical structure having an upwardly inwardly projection member to form a seal with an thickened upper portion of the overcap skirt to protect against penetration into the chamber.

The container comprises a base cap (31) which includes an outer skirt (36) having container-engaging structure, a cylindrical well defining a chamber for containing and supporting a consumable or other item located therein, a frangible membrane (41) connected to the well along an inclined line (42) of weakness and by a hinge member. The hinge member has a pocket which extends downwardly adjacent lower and upper terminuses of the line of weakness. Also included is an overcap (32) which includes a body having gripping structure, an inner skirt received within and rotatably positioned relative to the well, and a cutting member (50) depending from a lower end of the inner skirt and substantially received within the pocket. The cutting member (50) extends below the lower terminus when the base cap (31) is assembled to the overcap (32), whereby the cutting member (50) severs the line of weakness upon substantial rotation of the overcap (32) with respect to the base cap (31).

摘要： A plastic container closure has a skirt which is connected to a tamper-evidencing band by frangible bridges, all molded in a single unit. Where the closure is a cap for a container neck, there is at least one retaining means on the skirt and another on the band. The neck has two retaining means which cooperate with those on the cap to prevent upward movement of the cap without fracture of the bridges. To reduce the likelihood of unintentional fracture of the bridges, particularly during installation of the cap on the neck, plural ejection bumpers of extended arcuate lengths are located on the top edge of the band and or from the bottom edge of the skirt and the bridges are located between the bumpers. This snap lock ring functions to replace the conventional retaining means located centrally of the band. The invention is applicable to tamper-evidencing bands of closures and of push/pull closures of sports-type cap spouts.
