摘要： A single-to-multi mode converter and an optical code division multiple access system using the same. The mode converter includes first, second, and third optical waveguides. The first optical waveguide is formed of a single-mode optical fiber and outputs a single-mode optical signal. The second optical waveguide converts the single-mode optical signal output from the first optical waveguide to a multi-mode optical signal and allows the optical power of the single-mode optical signal to be coupled to each mode of the multi-mode optical signal. The third optical waveguide is formed of a multi-mode optical fiber and transmits the multi-mode optical signal output from the second optical waveguide.

摘要： Provided is an optical Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) transmitting apparatus and method for transmitting bipolar data in an optical CDMA system. The optical CDMA transmitting apparatus and method of the present research has a simple structure, including only one optical CDMA encoder and one optical modulator. This technology minimizes multiple access interference by using modified pseudo-noise code in the encoding process, thus improving the optical CDMA transmission performance. The optical CDMA transmitting apparatus includes: an optical CDMA encoding means for encoding lights from the outside into a code or a complement code of the code; and an optical modulation means for transmitting the code or the complement code of the code which is selected in the optical CDMA encoding means based on the polarity (either ‘0’ or ‘1’) of the data inputted from the outside.

The wavelength tunable light source having a PLC (planar lightwave circuit)-ECL (external cavity laser) structure includes a first housing in which a semiconductor optical gain medium is mounted, a second housing in which a PLC device is mounted, and a third housing in which an optical fiber is mounted. The first, second, and third housings make an optical axis alignment through an optical coupling lens and combined in a laser welding method.

摘要： Disclosed are an optical transmission apparatus and method in a wavelength division multiplexing passive optical network (WDM-PON). The optical transmission apparatus outputs an optical signal by applying a DC bias current and an RF signal to a laser diode at a threshold current level of the laser diode, thereby broadening an optical spectrum of the laser diode. Accordingly, an optical link becomes less vulnerable to reflection induced noise, which contributes to improve stability and reliability of the optical link.

Time domain encoding means creates a time domain code having a sequence according to inputted data bits or a complementary code which is complementary to the time domain code. An optical modulation means selectively outputs lights, in which the lights are incident upon the optical modulation means from the outside, to two output leads, respectively, according to chip bits of the time domain code or the complementary code. A wavelength domain encoding means encodes the light outputted from a first output lead of the optical modulation means to a wavelength domain sequence (two dimensional code), transmits the wavelength code to the base station, encodes the light outputted from a second output lead to a complementary sequence of the wavelength domain sequence, and transmits the complementary code of the two dimensional code to the base station.

摘要： A PLC-based wavelength-tunable WDM-PON system with an optical wavelength alignment function, the WDM-PON system comprises: a PLC platform formed on a silicon substrate; a semiconductor chip comprising an active region generating light and a passive region located in front of the active region for vertically coupling the light generated in the active region; a planar lightwave circuit (PLC) waveguide; one portion of a PLC platform where the semiconductor chip is surface mounted; waveguide Bragg grating (WBG) formed at a predetermined location of the PLC waveguide; a directional coupler transferring an optical power by permitting the passive region to approach the PLC waveguide; a heater terminal, which is formed on the WBG; and a V-groove for attaching an optical fiber to another end of the PLC waveguide. Accordingly, a WDM-PON system having a function of realizing a cost-effective optical wavelength alignment can be provided.
