    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel current sink circuit designed to sink a regulated current to power supply voltage over a certain fixed range applied between both ends of the circuit as a part of operation which receives the power supply voltage from an Ethernet cable.
      SOLUTION: An apparatus according to some aspects comprises a detecting element, a pass element connected to the detecting element, and a setting element coupled to the pass element. The setting element provides both a voltage threshold level and a current regulation reference. The pass element allows passing of a current flowing in the current sink circuit in response to the setting element. When the voltage applied between both ends of the current sink circuit is below the voltage threshold level, the current flowing through the current sink circuit is substantially zero. When the voltage applied between both ends of the current sink circuit is above the voltage threshold level, a signal generated by the detecting element is regulated in response to the current regulation reference by regulating the current flowing through the pass element.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique by which an operating range of a flyforward converter is expanded down to a low input voltage.
      SOLUTION: The power converter includes a positive input supply rail and a negative input supply rail. The input voltage of the power converter is applied between the positive input supply rail and the negative input supply rail. A flyback energy transfer element having a flyback input winding and a forward energy transfer element having a forward input winding are also included. The flyback input winding and the forward input winding are coupled between the positive input supply rail and the negative input supply rail. A voltage control circuit, combined with the forward energy transfer element, is also included; and the voltage control circuit reduces a voltage across both ends of the forward input winding down to almost zero, when the input voltage of the power converter becomes lower than a first threshold.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a switch-mode power source which has regulated reflected voltage.
      SOLUTION: In one embodiment, the switching-mode power source includes a power regulator which is coupled between the positive input power rail of itself and the primary winding of an energy transmitting element. The reflected voltage across the primary winding of the energy transmitting element has correlation to the output voltage across the secondary winding of that energy transmitting element in compliance with the winding ratio of that energy transmitting element. The power regulator is coupled to perform regulation for the reflected voltage across the primary winding, thereby performing the regulation of the output voltage across the secondary winding. In one embodiment, the reflected voltage across the primary winding is detected via a current which shows the reflected voltage received by the power regulator.
