    • A method of capturing an image from a video call between a first user and a remote user over a communication network. The method comprises: receiving video data from the remote user at a client executed at a user terminal of the first user, the video data comprising a sequence of frames; the client capturing a frame of the video data responsive to a command from the first user; the client extracting image data from the frame; the client converting the image data to an image file and embedding a communication identity of the remote user in the image file, wherein the communication identity is suitable for' initiating a communication event with the remote user; and storing the image file on a storage means of the user terminal. According to another aspect, a plurality of frames are captured which are converted by the client to a video file.

    • A method of providing instant messaging communication between a first user and at least one other user via a communication network.     • A method of transmitting data from a first node to a second node in a communication network comprising: receiving a signal; dividing the signal into data elements arranged in a first data stream comprising active and inactive data elements; analysing at least one characteristic of the signal to determine if the signal is stable; dropping at least one active data element from a plurality of data elements of the first data stream if it is determined that the portion of the signal included in the plurality of data elements is stable; inputting the data elements that are not dropped from the first data stream into a core stream; and transmitting the core stream from the first node to the second node.

    • A method of controlling a communication session between a user of a communication network and a communication system wherein the communication network comprises a first network and a second network, and wherein the communication system operates on the first network said method comprising; transmitting a session request packet from a device associated with the user to a first node located in the first network; initiating the session for the user with the communication system at the first node in response to receiving the session request, wherein during the session the method comprises the steps of; providing from the first node to the device a calling identity for use by the device during a communication event between the user and an entity via the communication system, wherein the calling identity may be used to establish a connection between the device and a second node located in the second network determining an address of the entity; and associating the calling identity with the address of the entity; wherein upon termination of the session the calling identity is disassociated from the address of the entity.
