    • A hydraulic power pack having a prime mover driving a plurality of hydraulic pumps, a hydraulic circuit including a reservoir connected to an inlet of said pumps, an outlet circuit from said pumps, one or more pressure relief valves in the outlet circuit and a plurality of external connectors on the outlet circuit. The connectors and the relief valves are arranged so that different hydraulic flow and pressure characteristics may be obtained from each connector. Each connector has a flow and a return line, the latter being connected to the reservoir. Valves provided in the hydraulic circuit are responsive to zero flow in the return line of each connector and are adapted to divert the hydraulic flow directly to the reservoir without restriction.

    • A hydraulic control system for distributing pressure fluid to at least two systems, that is a first system including a first pump supplying pressure fluid through a first conduit to a first consumer and a second system including a second pump for supplying pressure fluid to a second conduit, in which a plurality of multiple position valves are arranged, each movable between a neutral position providing free flow of fluid through the second conduit and at least one working position respectively directing pressure fluid to the additional consumer respectively connected to said plurality of multiple position valves. A regulating valve is located in the first conduit and the second conduit is connected by a cross-conduit to the first conduit at a point upstream of the regulating valve therein. A bypass circuit in which a valve controlled by the fluid pressure in the second conduit is located leads from the second conduit to the inlet of the first pump so that when none of the additional consumers is actuated only a very small fluid stream passes through the second conduit and the multiple position valves to thereby reduce the energy losses.

    • A fluid transmission circuit in which three or more pumps, adapted to be driven in unison by a prime mover operating at constant power output, draw fluid from a reservoir and deliver it to a reversible fluid motor via a control valve incorporating forward, neutral and reverse positions, the motor being driven, when the circuit is in use, against a fluctuating resistive force. The fluid outputs of two or more of said pumps are controlled by the output of a diverting valve whose input is connected by a separate pressure-sensing line to the fluid flow through the motor and which is initially biassed into a position in which each of said fluid outputs from said pumps is delivered to the motor. The arrangement is such that, as the demands on the motor increase and the pressure of fluid passing through the motor rises through a succession of predetermined levels, the pressure-sensing line will sense the rises in pressure and, at each successive pressure level, will cause the diverting valve automatically to divert the fluid outputs of successive ones of said pumps back to the reservoir without passing through the motor, the pump outputs being automatically switched into the motor supply line again, one after the other and in the reverse order from that in which they were switched out, by the diverting valve as the demand on the motor subsequently falls.

    • A hydraulic pump unloading system having an engine driving two hydraulic pumps which are connected in parallel to a load-supporting member. An unloading valve is connected in the hydraulic line with one of the two pumps and is shiftable between positions for directing flow to the load and for directing flow to a reservoir, depending upon the pressure and or flow in the hydraulic line. Also, a pressure-compensated flow-control valve is connected in the line with the other pump and, under certain conditions, directs fluid pressure to the unloading valve for setting the unloading valve in either the operative or the unloading position, all depending upon the hydraulic condition at the load-supporting member. Further, either an additional valve or a spring can be effective on the unloading valve for controlling the operative and the unloading position of the unloading valve. The system is arranged so that when the workload approaches an excessive magnitude, one of the pumps is unloaded so that the engine will not stall.

    • A hydrostatic drive system for connecting a prime mover and a hydraulically operable load such as a hydraulic motor connected to the vehicular wheel has a constant-displacement pump and a variable-displacement pump both connected to the prime mover. The variable-displacement pump is completely reversible and is of maximum displacement substantially greater than the constant displacement pump. This variable-displacement pump is permanently connected across the hydraulic motor of the load. A clutch connects the constant-displacement pump to the same shaft as the variable-displacement pump. The outputs of the constant-displacement pump may be connected by a valve either in parallel to the outputs of the variable-displacement pump, or may simply connect them together for operation of the load only by the variable-displacement pump.

A primary one of the valves controls flow from one of the sources directly into the circuit; and the other control valve is selectively operable to direct flow from the other source through the primary valve into the circuit so as to combine the flow from both sources for the regeneration feed and rapid retract modes.
