    • The retarder is interposed between the gear box and the axle of the vehicle. The stator of the retarder is suspended from the chassis of the vehicle independently of the gear box and of the axle and the rotor of the retarder is coupled respectively to the output shaft of the gear box and to the input shaft of the axle through two homokinetic coupling assemblies. The rotor of the retarder comprises a cylindrical internally grooved sleeve open in the direction of the gear box. The homokinetic coupling assembly situated between the gear box and the retarder has a very small and invariable axial size and ends on the side of the retarder in an externally grooved stub shaft axially slidably engaged in said sleeve. The homokinetic coupling assembly can be composed of two cardan joints juxtaposed axially against one another.

    • This invention relates to an automotive vehicle safety system comprising an ignition circuit breaker to be actuated in the event that the throttle of the vehicle becomes unexpectedly uncontrollable in opened position. This system includes a pair of switches which involve the ignition circuit, said switches being normally in position as not to interrupt flow of current through the ignition circuit. One of said switches is actuated automatically to break the ignition circuit in the event of the breakage of the throttle lever spring and the other of said switches is manually energized to deenergize said first mentioned switch and to break said ignition circuit by action of the operator in the event the throttle lever is frozen resulting in unexpected loss of engine speed control.

    • A skid control system for a wheeled vehicle having braking apparatus. By the system, wheel speed is monitored and converted to module input signals having a time spacing corresponding to the velocity of the wheel. These signals are used to control the charge and discharge of a velocity generator capacitor and a velocity reference generator capacitor. Between input signals a controller will cause the velocity generator capacitor to be charged from a certain threshold value to a peak value corresponding to the instantaneous velocity of the wheel and the velocity reference generator capacitor to be charged from the peak value of the velocity generator capacitor at a rate and to a voltage level corresponding to a desired deceleration rate. Upon the termination of input signal the controller will reset the velocity reference generator capacitor to the peak value of the velocity generator capacitor and the velocity generator capacitor to its threshold value. The voltage levels of the capacitors are compared by an operational amplifier and if the velocity reference generator capacitor has the lower voltage level, which indicates an impending wheel lock condition, an output is developed which through an output signal generator will operate the braking apparatus to relieve the braking force. The system is prevented from operating when the vehicle is stationary and also incorporates provisions for preventing response to minor velocity fluctuations and to wheel velocities below a certain minimum.
