    • A locking system for toolboxes, industrial cabinets and the like includes a push button operator assembly connected by at least one movable link to at least one latch mechanism configured to latchingly engage an associated striker to releasably retain a first structure (such as a closure) on which the striker is mounted in a closed position relative to a second structure (such as a cabinet) on which the locking system is mounted. The push button operator assembly has a button that, when unlocked, can be depressed to move the associated link to unlatch the latch mechanism from the striker, and that, when locked, is inoperable when depressed to move the link. Push button operator assemblies are disclosed that can move their associated links in one of two opposite directions (to accommodate the directions of link movement needed to operate the associated latch mechanisms), and these oppositely acting push button operator assemblies may be combined in a locking system where either can operate all of the latch mechanisms of the system.

    • A tamper resistant lock assembly is disclosed which is configured to prevent keyless operation of the lock assembly. The tamper resistant lock assembly includes a lock housing having a bolt slidably supported therein and a strike. The lock housing is secured to a mounting plate which is adapted to be fastened to a movable member such as a door. The strike is adapted to be fastened to a support member such as a door jam at a position to facilitate engagement between the bolt and the strike when the movable member is in a closed position. The strike includes a C-shaped catch member defining a recess having an opening which is configured to receive an engagement portion of the strike when the movable member is in the closed position. The engagement portion of the strike is also C-shaped and defines a recess. When the engagement portion of the presently disclosed strike is engaged by the catch member of the presently disclosed bolt, a lip portion of the bolt is positioned within the recess of the engagement portion of the strike and a lip portion of the strike is positioned within the recess of the catch member of the strike to provide an interlocking engagement which resists tampering.

    • A cedar chest lock remains unlocked unless positive actuation of a strike engaging member is effected. The lock includes a strike member projecting from the chest lid for cooperation with a locking latch plate retained in a housing mounted in the side wall of the chest. The housing thus has an opening for receipt of the strike member. A latch plate is pivotally mounted in the housing and is spring biased to a position which avoids engagement with the strike member upon insertion of the strike member through the housing opening. A push button in the housing may be actuated to engage and position the latch plate for cooperation with the strike member. Actuating the push button and subsequent positioning of the strike member through the opening in the latch housing permits the latch plate to engage the strike member thereby locking the chest lid in a closed position. The push button may include a key operated lock.
