    • Disclosed is a sliding mechanism for opening and closing a cellular phone. The mechanism includes a main plate, a slider plate slidably connected to the main plate, a first block shaft-rotatably fixed to the main plate, one or more first rod member fixed to the first block, a first resilient member connected to the first block and generating expansion force, a second block shaft-rotatably fixed to the slider plate, one or more second rod member fixed to the second block, a second resilient member connected to the second rod member and generating expansion force, and a connection block placed in the central area of the first and second blocks and supporting the end portions of the first and second resilient members. The connection block slidably connects the first and second rod members with the first and second blocks in such a way that the end portion of the first rod member is directed towards the second block and the end portion of the second rod member is directed towards the first block. The first and second resilient members are formed of a compression spring having a good resiliency and service life, thereby improving reliability of cellular phones.

    • A portable radio apparatus comprises an apparatus body(103) and a removable radio system unit (100) which is detachably connected to the apparatus body. The removable radio system unit (100) stores protocol specifying information which is transferred to the apparatus body when connected. A processor (401,403) of the apparatus body controls the whole operation of the radio apparatus (1) based on a protocol data set specified by the protocol specifying information received from the radio system unit. The protocol data set may be stored in the removable radio system unit. Alternatively, the apparatus body stores a plurality of protocol data sets (S1-Sn) and selects one of the protocol data sets according to the protocol specifying information.

    • A portable radiotelephone transmits voice information signals to a telephone base station by radio and receives voice information signals transmitted by radio from the base station to output the received signals as voice signals. The radiotelephone includes a telephone main body having a key pad section mounted on its outer surface and containing a microphone unit, a speaker housing containing a speaker unit and slidably mounted on the telephone main body at a variable distance between the microphone unit and the speaker unit, and a switching unit between the telephone main body and the speaker housing for establishing electrical connection and disconnection depending on a sliding movement of the speaker housing relative to telephone main body. The radiotelephone is extended and contracted in size as a result of sliding movement of the speaker housing relative to the telephone main body. Electrical connection and disconnection between the speaker unit and the telephone main body may also be achieved simultaneously.

The antenna is not readily obvious to the user as it is hidden in the swing arms and cap of the device. The extendable arms act as telescoping antenna that increase the antenna length for improved antenna performance in the frequency range of 700 to 780MHz. The antenna can swing into a position away from the body of the device, greatly improving the antenna gain performance and its radiation patterns. In addition, the antenna can be top-loaded design with dielectrics in the cap to further improve its performance. The USB transceiver comprises a USB adaptor, a retractable antenna, and a cap for protecting the USB adaptor when the antenna is retracted. The adaptor, antenna and cap lie in a plane rotatable by 360 degrees.
