摘要： An image forming apparatus such as an electrophotographic copying machine includes an optical system for housing a scanning exposure optical system. The optical system housing has air inlet and outlet holes defined therein for introducing air into and discharging air from the optical system housing. Electrostatic filters are mounted on the optical system housing in covering relation to the air inlet and outlet holes. Thus, the optical system housing is substantially closed. The optical system housing is composed of surrounding walls having ends joined in pairs in interdigitating relationship, one of the ends in each of the pairs having an end surface held in abutment against an inner surface of the surrounding wall having the other end. An image forming mechanism is housed in an image forming mechanism housing having a pair of confronting side walls spaced from each other. One of the side walls is taller than the other side wall, and has support fingers projecting laterally from an inner surface thereof. The optical system housing is supported on the support fingers and the other side wall.

摘要： An improved electrophotographic reproduction apparatus (10) having a photoconductive member (54) mounted for movement about a closed loop path in operative relation to electrophotographic process stations (32, 34) and a movable scanning mechanism (50) for optically exposing the photoconductive member to a light image of a document to be repro duced. The improvement comprises a self-coiling exposure shade (76a, 76b, 80a, 80b) for preventing unwanted illumina tion from exposing said photoconductive member. The exposure shade includes an opaque, low reflectance, sheet material (76a, 76b) treated to coil on itself. One end of the material is connected to the scanning mechanism (50) and the opposite end is associated with support member (80a, 80b) oriented coaxially with the coiled material. As the scanning mechanism (50) moves in a direction to pull on the exposure shade, the shade will uncoil; and when the scanning mechanism moves in the opposite direction, the shade will coil on itself about the support rod.

摘要： A lamp unit (A) for use in an electrophotographic copying apparatus, moves under an original on the original support. The lamp unit (A) is formed with a slit (2) through which the light from the lamp (1) is shed on to the original and reflected by it on to a photo-sensitive object to form an image thereon. The slit (2) is the narrowest at its center and gradually widens toward its both ends. Also, the lamp unit (A) is accelerated until it reaches the center of the original support and is decelerated thereafter. This assures a uniform distribution of light over the surface of a photosensitive object.

摘要： A two-dimensional full-frame illumination assembly is formed, in a preferred embodiment, by coupling light from a lamp (18) into an edge of a document platen (12) which has been modified by applying a pattern of white segments (14) to the bottom platen surface. The coupled light is totally internally reflected within the platen body except for the area covered by the segment pattern. Light encountering the segments is reflected upward towards the document support surface to provide the required document illumination. The light reflected by the document (11) passes back through the screen segment pattern and is projected by a conventional lens (16) or a full-frame, two-dimensional, short focal length lens array onto a photosensitive surface (24) such as a photoreceptor belt.
