    • Methods and apparatus to flush residual used oil from the lubrication system of an engine during an oil change. The method includes draining used oil from a tank of the lubrication system and then adding fresh oil to the tank. An adaptor or fitting is used to provide an outlet in the lubrication system to flush any residual used oil that may not have been drained along with used oil in the oil tank. The engine may be started such that a scavenging pump of a lubrication system pumps residual used oil out of the system through the outlet. Once a user observes that residual used oil has been substantially flushed from the system, the engine is stopped to terminate the flushing process.

    • Apparatus and methods for flushing and cleaning the oil strainer and crankcase of an internal combustion engine of a type having a removable full-flow oil filter. The oil filter is temporarily replaced with a cartridge which has at least one passage therethrough which will communicate with the discharge side of the engine oil pump but does not communicate with the normal outflow port of the filter apparatus. A second passage therethrough may communicate with the outflow port of the filter system but does not communicate with the discharge of the oil pump. In a preferred method, the inlet of the first passage may be connected to a source of pressurized fluid to force the fluid, in a direction opposite to normal flow, through the passage, the oil pump and the oil strainer to agitate and flush contaminants in the oil strainer and crankcase. The pressurized fluid and contaminants are drained from the crankcase after which the cartridge is removed, a new oil filter installed and clean oil added to the engine.

    • This invention concerns a hand held portable transmission cooler flushing apparatus comprising a high pressure liquid spray gun, and a hose connected to the liquid spray gun. The liquid spray gun comprises an air inlet plug fitting attachment, a handle, an air valve, a trigger, the trigger being loosely connected about a top end of the handle, the trigger being positioned in such a way that when the trigger is pulled while holding the handle the trigger then pushes an air valve button into the air valve opening an air passageway within the air valve, a lid structure, a canister for holding a cleaning solvent, the canister having an open end, the canister being covered by the lid structure at the open end in an air tight assembly, the lid structure having an angular high pressure air passageway and an angular high pressure liquid passageway, the angular high pressure air passageway having an entrance that is connected to an air outlet at a top end of the handle and an exit that is exposed to an inside of the canister, the angular high pressure liquid passageway having an entrance exposed to an inside of the canister and an exit that is exposed outside of the canister, a pressure tube, the pressure tube being hollow, the pressure tube being attached to the entrance of angular high pressure liquid passageway and extending downwardly to a bottom of the canister for transportation of the cleaning solvent in the canister, and a nozzle, the nozzle being attached to the exit of the angular high pressure liquid passageway. One end of the hose is attached to the nozzle and the other end of the hose is attached to one opening of a transmission cooler and when the liquid spray gun is attached to an air pressure system, the cleaning solvent can be passed through the hose hydraulically in a stream from the liquid spray gun by air pressure from the air pressure system into and through the transmission cooler and out a second opening of the transmission cooler by pulling the trigger to clean and check the flow of the automobile transmission cooler, after the cleaning solvent has been forced out of the canister in a stream a further cleaning action can then be performed by forcing pressurized air through the canister and into the transmission cooler, the pressurized air that is passed through the canister mixes with a residue of the cleaning solvent remaining in the canister thereby providing an atomized cleaning action in addition to flushing the transmission cooler with the hydraulic stream cleaning solvent.

    • An adapter system for use with an internal combustion engine flushing apparatus which permits connection to the crank case and the oil filter of internal combustion engines. A first adapter enables a conduit hose of a flushing apparatus to be connected with the drain plug port of an oil pan of the engine. In one form this first adapter fits within the drain plug port of internal combustion engines and a connector and upwardly directed hose are attached to the adapter. This adapter is intended to be permanently in place. In another form of the drain port adapter, the construction is relatively slim in overall depth thereby to facilitate location in awkward positions. An oil filter adapter includes adapter cap with an elongated threaded post which fits at the oil filter port leading to the oil filter adapter of the internal combustion engine. The cap for the adapter is connected to the post. The post is surrounded by a cylindrical ring which is part of the oil filter construction of the engine. A second conduit from the flushing apparatus can be connected to the vehicle engine so that a flushing solution in the apparatus can be circulated through and clean the internal combustion engine.

    • A method and device for changing oil and measuring oil consumption in an internal combustion engine having an internal oil lubrication distribution passage system with an oil filter and oil reservoir which includes the steps of connecting an external, separable apparatus to the internal oil lubrication distribution system at a first point upstream of the oil filter and at a second point in fluid communication with the oil reservoir; removing spent oil from the oil reservoir and measuring the amount removed; introducing a measured amount of fresh oil appropriate for the internal combustion engine into the oil reservoir; and calculating the difference between the amount of fresh oil introduced to and the spent oil removed from the oil reservoir. The device for facilitating oil introduction includes a bracket having an outer housing having an oil filter mounting face, an engine wall-engaging face and an intermediate outer wall portion disposed therebetween. The bracket has suitable oil passages within it for conveying oil to and from the oil filter unit and has a quick connect nipple in fluid communication with the oil passage. The device also includes an external pump device in fluid communication with the oil passage through a mating quick connect member located on the pump device.
