    • A demountable building structure that is readily assembled from a set of components is disclosed. The building structure includes a plurality of arc frame members spaced along a length of the building structure. Each of the arc frame members extends from a first foot portion to a peak, and back to a second foot portion. Each of the arc frame members includes a plurality of beams. Each of the beams includes two opposed flanges. Each of the flanges has two bifurcated ends. The ends define c-shaped rope chases with openings. The building structure further includes bases slidably mateable with the first and second foot portions, and elongate membranes having beaded longitudinal edges. The membranes are stretched between adjacent of the arc frame members. The longitudinal edges are within the rope chases. Spreaders extend between adjacent of the arc frame members for urging apart the arc frame members from each other and for maintaining the membranes in a stretched condition.

    • A membrane structure having a frame constructed of radial supports that extend outward and downward from a common apex to the base. These support members are usually curved semi-arches or have a curved bight, are indirectly attached to each other at the apex and are normally secured directly to the base to oppose outward thrust of the lower ends and to anchor the structure. Outward thrust can also be opposed by an auxiliary circumferential tension member near the base. These supports can be precurved before erection or formed by "bowling" straight members during assembly and/or erection.The membrane cover supported by the frame is fabricated to curve inwardly between, at least, the curved bights of the supports to decrease membrane vibration, enable it to carry heavy external loads, oppose deflection of the supports and thus add stability to the structure.Strong membranes having deep inward curvature between curved semiarch bights act as structural members to oppose semi-arch deflection and buckling permitting the use of semi-arches with lesser strength which can reduce semi-arch size, weight, cross-section and cost. For some applications flexability can be safely increased to better absorb uneven wind forces.One erection procedure includes the folding of pre-curved supports into parallel planes in a prone position, lifting them to a vertical position, unfolding the supports to their erected position and erecting additional supports, if any. The membrane can be attached to the supports before they are lifted or after the frame is erected.Another erection procedure includes attaching non-curved support members to an apex assembly, lifting the assembly progressively as the support members are "bowed" to a configuration desired, the membrane installed and the structure secured to the base with or without a circumferential tension member at the base. The membrane can be tensioned by pulling it downward over the arches in an "over-bowed" state, by moving arches apart and/or outward. In some cases, an adjustable section between supports may be required.

    • A stressed membrane space enclosure having a supporting frame comprising a plurality of spaced individually separable arch-like members with a strip of fabric stretched between each adjacent pair of arches and by means of which separable arches the fabric is tensioned. The feet of the arches rest on load-bearing pads that are individually shiftable as during the frame spreading for the purpose of tensioning the fabric and that each finds its own proper resting place when all the stresses on the structure have been normalized and is then secured against unauthorized movement by ground anchors, thereby achieving the greatest possible strength and stability of the supporting frame. The fabric is applied in reinforced elongated strips one such strip between each adjacent pair of spreadable frame members and stretched to a predetermined tension to bear maximum loads of wind and snow. Reinforcing the strips of fabric in the direction of the tension stress and ensuring a high uniform tension on each strip aids in the discharge or dispersal of heavy environmental loads and the overall strength of the structure. A load regulated power jack may be used to spread the adjacent pairs of frame members to achieve the desired fabric tension and allow the fixing of extendable spacing bars therebetween.

    • A building structure employing an easily erected and dismantled frame with a stressed membrane cover wherein the framework comprises a plurality of transversely disposed arch-like members spaced longitudinally of the building with a strip of fabric stretched between each adjacent pair of arches, each of said frame members being of an extruded aluminum alloy I beam having a web with an exterior crosshead and an interior crosshead. The I beam's exterior crosshead has a fabric capturing device interacting therewith to secure the edge of the fabric strip against escape and provide a weatherproof joint between the fabric and the beam. Extendable spreader beams are mounted on the upper side of the interior crosshead, they and any appurtenances other than the fabric capturing device already mentioned connected to or slung from the arch frame beams being positioned below the fabric membrane where they are protected from the weather and readily accessible from within the structure. To facilitate the handling, transport, erection and dismantling of the structure, the arches consist of a number of disconnectable small size lightweight components and all the separate parts of the frame are connected by bolts.

    • A mounting strip for flexible sheet material, such as clothbacked vinyl sheets which are used to cover the tops and body panels of automobiles. The strip is secured to the automobile body by rivets to extend about the top or a panel to hold the edges of a vinyl sheet covering the top or panel. The mounting strip is an extruded aluminum member having a cross section suggestive of a bird with its wings outspread. A central pedestal upstands from the automobile body and the outstretched wing portions extend from each side of the pedestal to form continuous sockets underneath them. The edge portion of a vinyl sheet which covers a top or panel is folded and the fold is fitted into an adjacent socket of the mounting strip. The vinyl sheet is then locked to the mounting strip by tucking a spline into the socket. The vinyl sheet is then lapped over the mounting strip, covering the rivets, and fitted and locked in place by a spline.
