    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently manufacturing a magnetic disk glass substrate having the excellent precision of surface unevenness and impact resistance.
      SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the magnetic disk glass substrate includes: a press-forming step for manufacturing a plate-shaped glass blank having the main surface roughness of not higher than 0.01 μm and having target planarity as a magnetic disk glass substrate; a chemical strengthening step for manufacturing a glass substrate in which a compressive stress layer is formed in at least a main surface of the plate-shaped glass blank; and a main surface polishing step for polishing the main surface of the glass substrate by pressing a polishing pad to the main surface of the glass substrate and moving the glass substrate and the polishing pad in relation to each other while a polishing fluid including a polishing agent is supplied between the glass substrate and the polishing pad. In addition, the plate thickness of the plate-shaped glass blank generated in the press-forming step is increased with respect to the target plate thickness for the magnetic disk glass substrate by a thickness required for the amount of polishing performed in the main surface polishing step.
