    • The present invention provides systems and methods for producing a shield for protecting an area from a pressure blast. The shield, which attenuates the pressure blast, can be used with tall, mobile, and underwater structures, including structures in densely populated areas. One system includes a source for providing an attenuation material, a delivery system that delivers the attenuation material to nozzles, and at least one valve device to control the delivery. A detector is configured to actuate the valve device to an open position in response to a perceived blast threat so that the delivery system delivers the attenuation material to form the shield proximate to a periphery of the protected area.

    • The explosion resistant cargo container includes a frame including a main section and an angled projecting section, and is formed from a plurality of support members. The frame is covered with one or more explosion resistant sheets to form the explosion resistant side panels. The explosion resistant panels comprise a plurality of layers of explosion resistant sheets. The explosion resistant panels may also include a sheet of polycarbonate, and may also include padding or insulation placed between layers of the explosion resistant sheets. The side panels and flexible door comprise one or more of explosion resistant sheets, with one or more of the sheets of the plurality of explosion resistant sheets have edges wrapped around and secured to one or more mounting strips, with the edges of the plurality of explosion resistant sheets and mounting strips being bonded together. The mounting strips are currently preferably formed of metal, such as aluminum. Door frame members on either side of the door have door frame hooks to receive door hooks, so that when the door hooks are intermitted with the door frame hooks on either side of the flexible door, blast pressure from an explosion within the container will cause the connection of the door hooks and door frame hooks to tighten.

    • Method and apparatus for minimizing blast damage caused by an explosive device carried in luggage or other cargo loaded on an aircraft. A first cargo container is provided which includes a non-explosion-resistant panel. A second cargo container, also including a non-explosion-resistant panel is paired with the first container and both containers are loaded in the cargo bay such that the non-explosion-resistant panels face inboard, oppose and align with one another. The method provides a controlled venting feature whereby explosive products are vented into the adjacent container in the cargo bay of an aircraft through non-explosion-resistant panel on the inboard side of the container. The container is constructed of lightweight, high-strength materials and may be joined to a supporting structure with threaded fasteners, allowing for efficient replacement of damaged panels. The container may also incorporate edge and corner joint designs that exceed panel strength and will not fail under reasonable probable blast pressures, yet require no special manufacturing or maintenance techniques.
